I echo the sentiment of the previous review.
To preface this review, yes I acknowledge it's newly opened, BUT - this is not a new restaurant chain by any means.
My visit today was a comedy of errors.
Arrived at 1pm with my 8 year old sun and mom.
Was told could be a 50 minute wait. They simply took my name and we were to wait to be called. - most restaurants have those buzzers so why don't they have them to?
We got in at 130, so that was nice.
It took about 15 minutes for the serve to offer drinks by which point we indicated we were ready to order and proceeded to do so.
I'm fairly certain our order was not put in right away.
We ordered 2 soup and salad combos and pancake. Fairly simply things. Server advised kitchen was backed up but it shouldn't be too long as she even said our order was simple and wait time depends on your order.
I asked shortly after 2 and was told not not much longer and accepted an offer of a free dessert
Then a gentleman came by at about 220 (he didn't give a position) to acknowledge our frustration and advise our bill would be discounted and our food would be up in 6 minutes
5 minutes later a second lady (not our server) told us they ran out of minestrone. My mom stated she did not want the other soup. The lady said give me a moment and she walked away.
That same gentleman came back offering a larger salad or toast and jelly as an alternate. At this point my mom was beyond frustrated and reluctantly agreeded to a larger salad.
235 the meal arrives.
The salad portions were exactly the same.
The table of 5 who came in well after us was served 10 minutes after us with far more complex meals.
This why I think our ticket wasn't put in right away.
My mom's meal was comped and dessert was free.
In the interest of customer service it was unreasonable to expect us to pay for the rest of the meal.
Gender neutral bathrooms, I appreciate them however not sure how they'll fly in a conservative area of the city.
I am willing to go again but I'll wait a few months for thing to...
Read moreI have never been to any of the Stella’s restaurants in Winnipeg, so some friends of mine, and I decided to attend the one on Henderson Highway.
This is not a standalone restaurant, but is located within the mall.
First blush, the restaurant is clean and well kept with a Smitty’s meets Montana’s vibe.
As we entered, we were greeted right away by a very friendly staff member and guided to a table where , as usual, our server asked if we would like to start with something to drink. Since we were waiting for a third member of our party, we each had coffee and a water.
As soon as our friend arrived, the waitress came to our table and asked if he would like something to drink. Just trying to illustrate how on top of things the staff is. We were not interrupted or bothered until they saw that our third member had arrived.
Cutting to the chase, the food was very tasty for the most part Two of us had the Thai chilli and it was very good with a good size portion though not much spiciness . The other meal ordered was a spinach salad, which fell a little short in the taste department. At Stella’s they have their own in house dressing, and neither of the two that were offered had much flavor. That being said, the portion size was quite generous.
Both of our servers were from the Ukraine ( yes we asked) but spoke very good English and we were very pleased to see them smiling despite what their country is going through.
Bottom line? Although their prices are a little on the high end, the food you get and the service you get, makes it worth it.
I would definitely attend this...
Read moreWhile we will drive across the city often to meet friends for dinner, or try something new - Stella's Henderson Hwy has become our local favourite. Its equally for the fresh well-prepared food, the service by friendly and thoughtful staff that work together as a team, and the clean, bright and attractive location. The plentiful parking and large windows with tons of natural light are also a bonus. We have lots of favourite items here, but lately I've been trying new things and everything is consistently well prepared.
I'm not saying its perfect - because if you eat out you know that no place is perfect. Its really good, and if they get anything wrong, they fix it, and make sure we're happy. To us, good eating is a relationship. We reward their loyalty and care with our own.
Some reviewers have said its pricey, but this isn't fast food; everything is prepped to order and the team takes pride in their work. They always customize items for us, everything comes out hot (or cold if its supposed to be :P ) and their portions are quite generous. The staff are attentive without being overbearing. And the restaurant is spacious with high ceilings, so you can hear each other speak without feeling like everyone can hear you. That's a tough balance - and something so many places do not get right.
So happy to have a really nice, welcoming and tasty option in NK (AT LAST) that's not far from home. We will continue to support this location for their great service, friendly welcoming staff, and...
