Sweet Retreat — Restaurant in Winnipeg

UPDATE: the review below, is still accurate. But I contacted the owner and she got back to me very quickly. She apologized more then once, and re did the cupcake designs I was unhappy with, within the hour. She did explain to me it was a new staff member who had made the original ones, and she would be correcting them herself. Again when I arrived to have the cupcakes fixed they were very apologetic. Now that I’ve had one I can confirm they’re delicious. Although inconvenient, I really do appreciate the efforts to fix it right away. I would definitely order again after having my problem fixed so fast. They were beautiful afterwards. It truly was good customer service and was never once made to feel bad or wrong about me not enjoying the original cupcakes I was given. Glad I reached out to have them fixed!!

I made a Google review a couple of months ago using a different account but it won’t let me edit it. I had ordered some desserts through skip the dishes and was very happy with them! They were delicious. I decided to order some custom cupcakes for a birthday and I picked them up about an hour ago and I have to sadly say I am disappointed. The cupcakes with no design look amazing. The ones with the custom designs are underwhelming. After looking at the sweet retreat Instagram I was sure I was getting beautiful cupcakes.. but they look rushed and messy. The cupcakes are ok. I suspect they don't use real vanilla as they have a very heavy artificial vanilla flavouring like boxed cake flavour. The cake part of the cupcake wasn't very sweet, which I like, but the icing isn't very sweet either so the two together was a one note dull flavour for me. With a mildly sweet cake you can have that pop of sweetness and flavour with the icing and these are lacking that. I would definitely make the icing a bit sweeter. The cake dough is also fairly dense more like a muffin and not a cupcake.

Macarons are good, nice size but a few flavours didn't have that punch of blast of flavour you need to have when biting into a macaron. Macrons are small so they all need to be packed full of flavour the instant you bite into them. I did enjoy most of the flavours, but some of them need...

I would give this place 20 stars if I could!!! From the moment you walk in all senses are amazed. The ambiance and smell is indescribable and the baked deliciousness that comes out of the kitchen. Par to none.

This is hands down the best bakery. From the details in her art and techniques in perfecting so many different treats.
