I was craving Chinese meat skewers for months now & found this place via google maps search
I was little skeptical going here, saw past reviews about this restaurant being well 5 stars years ago before then saw the recent reviews that were given a one star, I wasn't sure who to trust so I went here with a Toronto foodie friend of mine & he gave it the foodie stamp approval!
PROS the only north chinese restaurant with the best beef, chicken, lamb skewers! authentic North Chinese food, doesn't get better than this 🥵 cumin chow mein is to die for we ordered one wrong dish due to language barrier but it still ended up being phenomenal! food well balanced portions of spicy, flavorful & deliciousness! vintage interior tons of menu items to choose from! staff is friendly, but you'll definitely need a translator to speak chinese to order
CONS limited seating, small space inside & only has one door to the entrance from outside, you definitely will walk by it residential or main street parking only outdated restaurant sign so you'll definitely drive right by this place
will be coming back to try the rest of the types of skewers, hot pot, moo shu & other traditional dishes!

I called to ask what their hours of operation were, and the lady on the line didn't speak any English. That's when I knew it was legit.
Walking into the place the first thing that will hit you is the smell of the grill, and the rich blends of spices they use in their skewered meats.
The decor, and ambience reminds me of the hole-in-the wall restaurants you'd find in Asia. It's ironic because the restaurant is just located in a dilapidated building with antiquated furniture. To me it adds to the experience.
There's a grandma in her 60s working about, prepping meats, cutting vegetables, and if you speak mandarin, she'll take your order. I didn't so I pointed at pictures. The main chef however will help you order what you want in very limited english.
I can vouch for all the meats that you can order on skewers. I've been there twice in two days to confirm that the quality wasn't one off.
The restaurant and the people within it epitomizes the immigrant narrative. They work their heart out to provide you the best food they can, but they won't be able to interpret your every need. Speak up if you...
Read moreWas I in the same restaurant as the 5star reviews? I am confused! One of the garlic sauce dishes was incredibly salty that there was no way it could be eaten. I sent it back and there was no charge. Service was meh- she gave a menu and delivered food, but no friendliness, no checking in. The cook and herself were loud with each other, it was like I wasn't there. The disorganization of the kitchen is sitting in piles in the restaurant. The bigger issue was when after I ate and was waiting, looking around at the window sills and the window into the kitchen and all the peeling paint and DEAD BUGS😳 Seriously, hundreds, not an exaggeration. When was the last time a health inspector was in? I will NOT walk back in there again, no way. So dirty. If I had paid attention instead of dealing with phone texts before ordering, I would have definitely walked out. So many other options out there to...
