One ‘Double Double’, please!
Preface: This blog post is for not just the first time I tried Tim Hortons but sub-sequential visits while in Canada.
It wouldn’t be a trip to Canada without a stop at an authentic Tim Hortons. Sure, there are some in the United States but having it from it’s native country just gives it a bit extra charm. Shortly after arriving in the new country, that is exactly what we did. It was a much needed to fuel us up for the drive ahead.
The stop at this Tim Hortons was a quick one to snag some coffee and hit the road again. We did what we normally do and parked the van, piled out, stretched our muscles and headed in. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but I wasn’t disappointed nor surprised. The interior felt like a Dunkin Donuts mixed with a Burger King. You could order your coffee or get some food or a little bit of both.
At this time in my life, I was obsessed with iced caramel lattes and that is exactly what I got here. I still am obsessed with them but I venture out to other drinks now instead of having the tried and true. The drink I got was pretty good. Nothing to right home about but it hit all the right spots and helped rejuvenate me for the drive ahead.
This wasn’t the only time we snagged Tim Hortons while we were in Canada. We stopped by them multiple times after this stop and I tried the ‘double double’ as that is what Laura suggested. I believe it is a black coffee with two creamers and two things of sugar. Man, that was a drink to fall in love with. While the iced caramel latte was average if not a bit above, the ‘double double’ was perfection in a cup. It had just the right about of cream to smooth out the blackness of the coffee and just enough sugar to perk it up a bit. At one point, we got some donut holes called ‘Timbits’. I’m not huge on donuts, so I only had one or two but they were decent. I am sure a donut lover would like them much more than I did.
Our visits to Tim Hortons were always pleasant and a real treat. Though I am well aware of the outrage among people who have been going there for years and their claims that the quality has gone down over the years. If I enjoyed my visits while in Canada, I would’ve loved to try it before...
Read moreI go here all the time because I work nearby but I am constantly very disappointed. I have to double check my drive through order every time because the staff will constantly give me a plain bagel instead of a cheese croissant, or there will be zero bacon on the grilled sandwich I specifically asked for with extra bacon. I will verbally and visually confirm my order at the order screen and still the orders are incorrect. Today was particularly bad because I asked for a vanilla ice cap. They did not ask if I wanted whipped cream on it. When I got to the window the man working handed me a hot French vanilla. When I politely explained that I actually asked for a vanilla ice cap, he became rude and condescending, telling me that a hot French vanilla is the same thing as an ice cap. I replied that ice caps are cold drinks, not hot, and he tried giving me the hot drink, telling me that it was what I asked for. My friend in the vehicle with me confirmed that I did indeed ask for a vanilla ice cap. Again, he told me that a hot French vanilla and a vanilla ice cap are the same thing. Eventually I got the vanilla ice cap but I was not very happy. While I always try to be very polite with service workers, this particular worker seemed to be quite rude with me. I don't know if it is because the staff are severely under trained, or if they just don't care about the customers. Edit: today in the drive through I was in a rush. I also got a donut with my ice cap. I asked if the straw was in the bag. They said yes. It was not in the bag and I had to drive back as my workplace has no straws. Another edit: today I was in the drive through and politely asked for a Tim's card so I could connect it to the app. The man told me that I don't need it. I let him know sometimes I don't have access to the internet so the app doesn't load and it would be easier. Again, he refused to give me a card and told me that it's easier if i just don't use it at all. I eventually got the card from someone else but it definitely seemed he was trying to discourage me from...
