Updated: Came back here recently. I had a friend who wanted to re introduce me, and it does help when you are with someone who knows what to order.
Service was excellent. The beef tongue was my favorite here. I learned that they do special dinners that you might be able to arrange. It does feel like if you get to know the owners, they can create fantastic experiences. We got some amazing items for this dinner. There was one item that we weren't charged for. There was so much that it became a bit of a blur. I would definitely go back. I have always liked Yujiro for its special menu and the availability of more unique items. They have cut out the middle man for some of their fish and get it in whole instead of getting smaller pieces like many other restaurants (I was told the Tuna for sure and seen pictures). They butcher it completely themselves.
The two owners are Ed and Billy. We had a great conversation with Billy about his restaurant and the unique things they have done since opening.

Read moreI came here on my birthday. Since I have no family, it is just me and my daughter, I wanted to spend a little more money that day on eachother. I am not rich, in fact quite the opposite. I have been making traditional Japanese food for almost 20 years of my life. I am also a sushi connoisseur. When I first entered the restaurant, they wanted me to have a reservation. Which was extremely rude of them. I was given judgy looks by all the chefs and waitresses. Let me break down the experience for you, which even Shopping Mall sushi rivals.
The Dinner menu was awful. There were about five sushi rolls. The lowest priced one, being $13.00. A “Deluxe California”. The rest of the rolls, were ranged from $25, to $50. For ONE ROLL.
The Nigiri sushi was the cheapest thing on their menu, you first think. But wait. The waitress then tells you “for 1 piece?” The Nigiri prices at first glance LOOK the same in price as your average sushi restaurant. But then, you realize they are charging for only ONE PIECE OF NIGIRI!! That’s absolute disgraceful! You think-until the plate comes out.
As soon as that plate arrived I wanted to cry. Because my daughters favorite-the Inari-which she has tried probably over 30 restaurants Inari so she knows what’s good- was literally 1/4 the size of a regular Inari zushi. I felt so bad for her at that moment. She didn’t like the taste, she said no flavor. Every single piece of the Nigiri Sushi was the smallest cut of horribly colored fish I have ever witnessed in my over 80 sushi restaurants and home cooking I have been through. And the rice underneath the Nigiri, was almost NON EXISTANT! I didn’t order SASHIMI for Pete’s sake! Of course I don’t have to tell you, that the fish was disgustingly old and dry and flavourless. Every piece was a disaster.
The “Deluxe California “ roll. Was THE SMALLEST , most disgusting roll I have EVER SEEN ! The rice. It was TRANSPARENT. Like GLUE. What is this…. And the roll had barely a tablespoon of rice covering it, the filling was the size of a pencil. SUSHI BLASPHEMY!
And they wanted 13$ for it!!!! I make the most beautiful California roll at home for a few bucks and I will smash this disgrace you call sushi to the ground! Pitiful!!!!
After it all, it cost 80$ for 7 measly pieces of Nigiri, and 1 “deluxe California “ roll which was anything but deluxe.
EIGHTY DOLLARS!!!! My 6 year old and I left that horrible YUJIRO Japanese restaurant absolutely starving on my BIRTHDAY!!!! And went home hungry!!!! After a long day!
Never return, go to HONBA sushi, Ta-Ke sushi...
Read moreI wish I had more photos to share - but that also must speak on how amazing the food was, we couldn’t wait to dig in!
We learned that reservations are recommended - we came as a walk-in not realizing, but the hostess was able to fit us in! 🙌🏼
I’ve always raved about how the best sushi I ever had was in British Columbia and that Manitoba simply couldn’t beat the quality British Columbia had to offer (being closer to the coast). Today, my boyfriend and I can both agree that Yujiro proved us wrong and they were in fact better than the sushi we had in British Columbia - wow! And they definitely hold the title for best sushi in Manitoba, I’ll definitely be back.
We each ordered their “winter lover” drink special, and assortment of nigiri (king salmon, BBQ eel, hamachi (yellow tail), and red snapper), baku dan and nagano rolls - we placed a second order of their nigiri because it was just that good!
My boyfriend ordered some of their oysters (which he said were amazing - he almost ordered more), and their nigata maki roll. I couldn’t eat those due to a shellfish allergy - which the staff were very aware and cautious with! We ordered their morel and black trumpet tempura as well - but it turned out that they only offered that during their Valentine’s Day special and could no longer do it, so our server suggested their stuffed mushroom tempura instead (we agreed without looking at the menu beforehand to see what was in it). It wasn’t until our server brought it to our table when they shared that it had shrimp in it, so I couldn’t eat that. But my other half enjoyed it!
Overall, it was an amazing visit and we will definitely be back! Hands down, the best sushi in Manitoba and I can 100% understand why they have a sticker on their front door stating they were one of “Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants” - they definitely...
