Usually I only leave negative reviews if people actively try to scam me, and that's not the case here, but I felt it was important to report this situation. I'm local to the KW area so we've been customers of Jack's for a long time. It's got great quality food and the servers are excellent. Until the latest time we went (Jan 2024) I've never had an issue at Jack's. We decided to celebrate my tween's birthday at Jack's because it's halfway between our home and my parents' hometown. I checked the restaurant's website and it said nothing about bringing in outside food. I'd spent the afternoon making a cake for my daughter and brought it along. It's possible there was a sign on the door about outside food and drink, but I didn't notice it. The greeter immediately said that they had a 'no outside food or drink' policy. I explained that it was a birthday cake and that I couldn't just leave it in the car. The greeter said leaving it on the table would be okay and they'd check with the manager. Our server was lovely and professional, despite the fact we were disgruntled (honestly if it hadn't been blizzard conditions, we probably would've left). She was so lovely in fact, that she tried to bring us plates and cutlery for the cake, only to get stopped by the manager. The manager was very snooty and actually said she 'wanted to make sure we were ONLY taking pictures with the cake, not eating it because of their policy'. Um, yeah, cuz all kids just want to look at their cake sadly for pictures. After spending about $15-$20/meal for the 6 of us, she was begrudging us a homemade cake. What happened to the days when restaurants gave you a free dessert on your birthday? How is that a 'family restaurant' experience? Hell, the Charcoal group allows outside desserts for birthdays and just charges $1/plate for using their dishware. Anyway, we probably will go back there sometime once the irritation fades. It is still good food and excellent service, but we'll NEVER go there for birthdays again and I will spread the word, so they'll be missing out on those large groups. I'm sure they won't care. The manager didn't seem like she cared about anything much. I just REALLY hope our server didn't get in trouble for trying to be a decent...
Read moreAs a hungry group of 4 on a Sunday early afternoon, we didn’t know what we wanted to eat. However, after stumbling upon Jack’s on Google, we knew we had to pay a visit!
I ordered the Breakfast Combo #2 (breakfast menu offered until 2:30 on weekends), which came with 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 slices of white toast, a piece of ham, hashbrown, and 2 pancakes. Everything was fresh and hot, and I was impressed by the sheer size of the meal and affordability. I also opted to get the optional free baked beans, which were some of the tastiest I’ve had before. We were also happy to note the butter was already soft and spreadable for the pancakes.
Service was alright but slow, though this might have been given how busy it was and how ravenous we were (we waited for 30 minutes for our table and 30 minutes for our food). We had also ordered a side of polish sausages, and our order came with 5 instead of the menu’s stated 6. Again maybe we just came on a particularly busy day, and at noon no less, but our waitress was happy to add in the missing sausage with no hesitation.
We left happy and fed, but if you visit on the weekend, be prepared for a wait unless you get there bright and early. I’m willing to visit another time to try their souvlaki or to eat some of those very fluffy pancakes again, but probably on a less busy day/at a...
Read moreMy family and I have been going to Jacks for years and will not be returning due to an unfortunate incident with a staff member.
On a recent visit to Jacks with family, our young toddler (2.5) was tired. After sitting and eating quietly and neatly for an hour, she was starting to meltdown. We could sense this was coming and quickly made moves to pay and exit. After paying, while we were clearly leaving, she escaped my hands and ran a few feet before I caught her by the waist. A server was nearby and rudely advised that “this is really not safe for us servers”.
We are so grateful for the work that restaurant staff members do and we understand the importance of keeping clear pathways for servers. However, in this case the lack of compassion and understanding was frankly deplorable. Was I supposed to yank my toddlers arm and risk dislocation? Parents second guess themselves enough as it is and do not need others vocalizing judgment while their child is having a hard time.
We left very upset from a situation that is difficult and stressful enough for parents to begin with. It was a disappointing end to a lovely Christmas-time visit with family. We will sadly not be returning to Jacks...
