Porto Antigo Restaurante — Restaurant in Sal

So me and my Wife were in Santa Maria, Sal, Cape Verde/Cabo Verde on holiday from our home in Manchester, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

We were staying in a lovely Airbnb a few minutes walk from Porto Antigo restaurant so we only went it for a drink 🍸 but the next day we decided to eat at Porto Antigo and we absolutely loved it infact we ate and drank here several times during our 2 weeks in Santa Maria, Sal.

The food, The drinks, The amazing staff, Great food, Great service, Great selection of drinks, Attentive staff, Value for money etc.

They also had live music 🎶 which really made the atmosphere even better, Big shout out to Waitress Hakin(best waitress on the Island of Sal, Cape Verde) who was amazing and if you do eat at the Porto Antigo I definitely recommend trying a Cape Verdean shot of Punch(Sugar cane etc).

Ate everything from fresh fish 🐟, Mussels, Clams to Caputcha(Cape Verdean National dish of meat, fish, Lentils, Onions, Peppers etc), Burger 🍔 and fries 🍟 to a meat platter etc.

All the food was tasty, Delicious and generous portions, We fell in love with Porto Antigo and the staff were all amazing and on my last day Hakin(Best Waitress in the Whole Of Cape Verde) made me a bottle of Punch to bring home.

I asked for a smoothie with fruit . Typically when I’ve ordered at other places it’s blended with water . Here it was with milk which was evident once the waitress brought it out. In all fairness I didn’t specify based on what I’m used to getting nor did she Ask for clarification. I cannot drink milk smoothies mixed with fruit . When I told her I wasn’t expecting milk she said that’s how they do it unless I ask for otherwise . Her attitude was off putting and slightly offensive and she basically had the disposition that it doesn’t matter and to just deal with it. I didn’t drink any of it. When it was time to pay and my friend asked if there was anything that can be done or if I can get anything different. She said I didn’t ask for it with water so basically it’s too bad. Fine . We still paid I just I know I will ll never return . She was very rude even when paying she didn’t say thanks just snatched the money and when she brought back the change just put it on the table and walked off. Poor customer service and manners. avoid . Go to cape fruit , I always go there but today they were doing renovations and went to another nearby place sine I’m staying at Porto Antigo. The service at this restaurant was absolutely terrible. Tourists are treated like second-class guests. I was served by a waitress who was taking my order while cleaning other tables at the same time. Because of this, she didn’t listen carefully and brought me a completely different dish than what I had ordered. When I pointed it out, she insisted she had taken the order correctly. After a short exchange, she finally agreed to prepare the dish I originally wanted, but we had to wait for it for an entire hour.

When it finally arrived, the fish was still raw despite the long wait. Luckily, there was a cat under the table that ended up eating it. To make things worse, nobody came to check on us or bring the bill—we had to go inside ourselves to ask for it.
