Absolutely a brilliant dining experience
My daughter and I who have been travelling for almost a month in Patagonia had one last night. This restaurant was located close to our hotel and was also open until 1130 pm, crucial since we returned from our penguin tour at 10pm
We were worried when we scuttled up to the front door as the manager / owner was standing by the front door, seemingly ready to inform us that the establishment was closed. Instead it was a very enthusiastic welcome and quick seating in a very quaint and formal setting, very tastefully decorated and pleasing to look at
As mentioned in prior reviews, there is no menu, although our delightful waitress showed us the menu on her iPhone. All we had to was check the boxes of the items that we desired. We decided to share an appetizer of garlic prawns which were good but not great. The garlic sauce was really nice with the fresh buns however. Keep in mind that I live on the west coast of Canada and generally catch my own spot prawns.
However, the mains were wonderful and amazing. My daughter chose the albacore tuna with potatoes and it was seared to perfection, this monster of a loin, and the seasoning was an exact complement. She could only eat half the loin and saved the rest for breakfast this morning which was still superior to a standard breakfast
I ordered the sirloin steak with ravioli but this was not available. The waitress suggested the venison loin which was again remarkably tender, delicious with a medley of vegetables and mushrooms and gravy. She let me (indeed recommended in the most kind manner) to have the ravioli that was supposed to be with the steak instead of the flat noodles. My goodness that was such a good choice.
Our waitress was so smiling and delightful. The chef and other staff waved hello as well. The price was very good for the ambiance, service and food. 76 CLP total including wine.
Very sad we are leaving Patagonia today
We thought yesterday’s crab / centolla feast was the best of Patagonia, but this was the best gastronomic experience of the...
Read moreWe almost didn't come to Damiana Elena because of a hater's hateful review. Thank goodness we did. After an excellent and reasonable meal the previous night in Punta Arenas's French restaurant " la Cuisine", we wanted some quality food again. That is what we got but not only. Discreet from the outside, but tastefully old fashioned and cosy inside, this delightful establishment is impregnated with the charm and enthusiasm of all of its staff. Having the menu read to us by our waiter I particularly appreciated and we found quickly and easily our choices. The food arrived instantly and was savoury and hot. Although not as reasonable as La Cuisine, this is neverthless refined cuisine at its best and we would not have found as good a place in France without paying 50 percent more. An excellent choice for a...
Read moreExcellent meal! We went here for dinner while in town and had a fabulous time! They don't have a set menu and just have specials that are described by your waiter or waitress. We selected the pumpkin cannelloni. It was excellent! Stuffed with cheese and then covered in a pumpkin sauce with pesto and Parmesan, it was salty and rich. Very tasty.
They had a very nice wine selection and we had a lovely bottle of red.
The restaurant is set inside a house with seating in different rooms. The seating inside is so inviting. It has an old French farmhouse charm with plenty to look at. Each room in the house has a few tables and different pieces for decoration. It is very cute.
The service is excellent. Our waitress was great. I recommend trying this place...
