Very welcoming host, an excellently attentive and helpful waitress. The camarones al pil pil I ordered was sizzling hot in the traditional black clay pot greda, and very, very tasty. I asked for the camarones to be spicy, and they were. They serve the camarones with big chunks of fried potato, 3 mothers of all French fries making up 3/4 of a potato. Not my thing, but they did bring me a couple of slices of toast, exquisitely presented, that I sopped up the pil pil oil with. Heaven! My wife had the merluza in seasoned butter with calamari and lima beans. I am not into veggies but I stole a bunch of lima beans off her plate. She thoroughly enjoyed her dish. We've tried 3 or 4 of the other highly rated restaurants here, and have found Adobe to be in a class of its own. We went back today for lunch, I had the fried merluza and my wife had the Pollo with merken. Battered Fried fish is by its very nature is mildly flavoured, and the merluza was surely mildly but well flavoured. It was perfectly cooked. There was a peeled sliced tomato topped with sliced onion and julienned carrot. The tomato looked a little pasty but tasted like a real tomato, and with the onion and a little olive oil and lemon made for a very tasty Chilean salad. The Chicken merken with (I think) a raw palm sugar based sauce was really good. The sauce was a little sweet for my diabetic palate but the lingering flavours of the sauce augmented the bold grilled merken flavours of the chicken. The chicken breast was uniformly tender and uniformly perfectly cooked. Arobe secures top quality ingredients, has them prepared and cooked by highly skilled chefs, and the food is then served by...
Read moreAfter our arrival in Atacama, we asked our lodge receptionist for good vegetarian restaurant around San Pedro. She highlighted Adobe as one of the best and she was not wrong. The ambience is nice and the first time we went there, our waiter Diego, gave us the best options for veggie dishes! This is the reason we went back today to sadly being disappointed by the quality of the pizza. I am not sure if the idea of good pizza is a kilo of mozzarella and a heavy dough that won’t be able to be digest for days. We sent it back after eating a couple of pieces and realizing we were just hurting ourselves to be kind. One of the waiters came back to make sure I knew I had to pay for it which of course I knew but a bit of more costumer focus touch would have been nice. Luckily the waitress that took our order came to check what went wrong and make us felt helped and welcomed and gave us a glass of wine on the house. This is a nice place as I said but if you like Italian food go for the pasta, which is amazing! And avoid the pizza because after 2 bites you won’t feel good. Thanks to Diego and the nice waitress for their way of handling...
Read moreSaw this place recommended online so I took my mom there for a fancier dinner after one of our tours. The scene was interesting - speakers all along the side of the wall which were mildly annoying when we wanted to speak to each other… but our waiter and all of the waitstaff were very attentive and polite, making sure to check in on us at all stages of our meals. My mom ordered the mint lemonade (loved it - very refreshing) and then we shared the Ensalada Fresca which we were skeptical about with the price but it was HUGE and so lovely. Then, I ordered the Pil Pil shrimp which were cooked to perfection and served in a boiling hot butter sauce (yum). My mom ordered the Lomo Roquefort which kinda fell flat - we liked the idea of the salty sweet combination with the fig and the cheese but it just was not executed correctly. Also, my mom ordered her filet medium and it was probably the most rare steak I have seen. The quinoa was oddly sweet as well which we were not expecting. I could see the vision, but the end result was not what either...
