功德林 — Restaurant in Beijing

My aunt and I came to Gong De Lin for dinner. We had the set menu for two, which included about 5 dishes, some of which are pictured (not very good photos sorry). My aunt lives in Beijing and has an app for the set menu FYI. Meituan. I’ve not used it myself and am unsure if I’d have access to it.

The food was done well, excellent taste and texture. Atmosphere was good, old Chinese architecture. Toilet is small and a squat toilet FYI.

Main letdown was the service. The servers were hard to wave down, despite it being quiet at the time. He asked for a review as soon as the food arrived, before we’d had a chance to try it. It took ages and he took a photo of my aunt’s review which I think is part of his job, and it seems every place we visit, people ask for reviews in exchange for a drink or snack. My review is not part of that.

The food is expensive by Chinese standards but cheap by Australian standards. Nothing special overall, but good enough...

Tried to go to this restaurant and arrived at 20:50 (which is the actual closing time). A lady helped us, even walked with us to another restaurant and asked them in mandarin to give us vegan food. She was extremely helpful. The next day we returned to her restaurant, and it turned out to be some of the best food I've had. They have countless traditional dishes in vegan form. Terrible food. First time in my life i couldnt even eat a bite. I ordered dumplings, my boyfriend ‚meat’pie, my food was served with vinegar, stuffing was impossible to eat, tasteless and felt old.
