pentahotel Beijing — Hotel in Beijing

Was at this hotel for 3 nights and my review as follows:||||1) Location:||Very good location overall. It is literally just 20 steps away from Exit C (with escallator gong up) Chongwenmen Station Subway (Line 2). You could see the hotel signage from far and hotel is at the back of a shopping mall - hotel entrance is opposite ICBC. Plenty of food, restaurant, fast food surrounding the hotel. In terms of location, it is about 1km away from Wangfujing Street or just 2 subway station away. It is also near Tianamen Square (2km away) and Temple of Heaven (2km away or 3 subway station away). So overall, hotel is nicely located in central beijing.||||2) Lobby and Check In||Lobby is more towards those boutique hipster concept which was cool, modern and trendy. Just next to the lobby is a minimarket - again super handy for tourist. Check in was very fast and friendly. However, no welcome drink was given.||||3) Room 1529 (i think)||Room was spacious with nice full lenght window overlooking the neighbourhood and the king bed was spacious (must have been super king bed). Room has humidifier which was nice and air cond system which works well too. Pillow and mattress were ok for 4 star hotel - very comfortable to sleep on. There is more than enough space for 2 persons. However, the same cannot be said about the bathroom. It was a bit compact with very limited space but it is still ok. Even tho it was compact, the shower is fully covered with glass - so the water will not wet the entire bathroom floor - especially during cold winter weather. I quite like the toileteries given - it was nice and fresh. Water pressure was strong. Overall, i think the room at Pentahotel is worthy of a 4 star and value for money.||||4) Buffet Breakfast||They served breakfast from 630am to 1030am. Presentation of breakfast was modern and nice. The spread is not bad for a 4 star hotel - there are congee, soya milk, fried chinese dough, fried rice, fried noodles, vegetable and few types of western options like hash brown, bacon etc. They also have steamed pau and dumplings. For improvement, i think the hotel can try to offer 1 or 2 types of fresh fruit juices or smoothies - as this is healtier especially since the hotel has a juicier display nearby the breakfast area. I am sure it will elevate the breakfast standard of this hotel. I dont think ppl mind paying a bit more for breakfast if it includes fresh fruit juices. Those bottled juices were way too sweet in my opinion. Also, I didnt like the coffee at breakfast - it could have been better quality.||||5) Suggestions||As Beijing has a lot of sightseeing sights to visit and mostly tours arranging pick up as early as 6am - it would be nice if the hotel could arrange some box breakfast for those guests going for day trip/day tour before 630am. Just a simple bag containing a few types of pastries and a box of milk and juice will do in my opinion. Especially during winter season - it is too cold to search for breakfast outside the hotel. Hope the management can accommodate this. I am suggesting this because I did have a tour pick up scheduled at 6.45am and when i enquire about the possibility of having box breakfast on the day before, no staff could understand me or my request. ||||6) Birthday Fruit Basket||Very nice gestures of the hotel to send a fruit basket to our room during my birthday. I slept in this hotel for 4 nights in february, i would recommend it+++ The windows are very cold but the curtains help greatly with keeping the heat+++ The room has a nice temperature even without the air conditioning in use or the curtains being closed +- The windows are usually colder than the fridge, so putting your food by the window works better than the fridge in winter (i don't know about the rest of the year) +- i forgot if you could open the windows since i didn't try, and the direct view was a building in construction ++ The room and bathroom were clean except for some water stains on some on the door of the bathroom and under the sink +- The shower had a hard time evacuating the water which left us with mini pools each time we showered, althought it never spilled over to the floor +++ The shower has space for you to move around and a little area to put your soaps+++ The sink is big so it is nice to clean your clothes+++ room has a lot of furniture and amenities: a closet with a safe, gas masks, hangers, disposable slippers+the paper form to professionally clean your clothes, 1 mirror in the bathroom, 2 mirrors at the entrance including a full body one,1 mirror on the little table, 1 mirror at the desk which also had a chair that is hard to roll on carpet, a nightstand with lights and tissues and a phone, a lamp on the desk, a couch with pillows, a bigger lamp, a tv, a table under the tv, a little fridge in the wall and a surface to put thing above the fridge and a little foldable surface for little luggages. There were toilet papers, tissues and a few teas bags and coffee, dental kits and comb and towels, 2 bins for residual waste and recycling---nose is stuffy in the room, possibly a mix of winter weather and air cleaning cycleThe entrance of the hotel seemed to always have people working there and there was a restaurant as well as a powerbank station, a currency exchange machine and a * box for deliveriesI didn't try the foods or drinks The area nearby has chongwenmen station on metro line 2, ISBC bank ATMs, many restaurants, a 7/11, and many many malls which all have food The hotel building also has a mall with a convenience store and a health center...

We had high expectations for this hotel due to the ratings we saw on trip.com but was greatly dissapointed. We planned to spend our anniversary in Beijing and splurged on an upscale room during our month long trip around beautiful China. At first, the check in went well and our room was very spacious. The bed was comfy and clean but the carpets were stained/dirty. On our first night at the hotel we attempted to do laundry and we were experiencing issues starting the laundry machine. We contacted the front desk and they sent someone to help us. The person they sent also struggled to start the laundry machine. We required assistance multiple times to operate the machine and 30 minutes prior to the laundry area closing we still had wet clothes in the dryer. We required assistance once more and we were approached by a man by the name of Jiang from the front desk with a terrible attitude. He told us that the laundry room was closing and that we have to return to our room with our wet clothes and try to clean them the following day. I told him that I am not leaving with wet clothes as I already spent a lot of money using the laundry room and I dont want my clothes to mold. I asked him to call the manager and he verbally accosted us and made a very big scene because I did not want to leave with wet clothes. It is not my fault their laundry machine had issues. I did not recieve any assistance from the hotel and a fellow customer of the hotel assisted me in starting the dryer again. I conveyed by concerns to the Hotel manager the following day and recieved an apology from him. Unfortunately, that apology is not enough for me to ever stay at this hotel again. We hope their hotel staff recieves better training and learns proper customer service as this event negatively impacted the evening before our anniversary. We were so upset we did not have dinner and it was very a bad experience. At this point we have stayed in China for nearly a month and at more than 10 different hotels and we did not experience such bad customer service...
