Chengweitang 承味堂, also known as The Tasty House, is a Beijing restaurant that has won 1 Michelin star ⭐️ for 4 consecutive years from 2021 to 2024. Chengweitang is located in Jingyard Courtyard in Beijing Sanlitun, a residential area famous for its top-notch restaurants. It has both the richness and fashion of people and the elegance of artistic life. Chengweitang is filled with the city’s artistic and historical symbols with its open space and red brick walls reflecting each other, giving the space a lively and exciting feel.
The restaurant manager shared about the restaurant with me: Just like the three characters in the restaurant name, 承味堂 – Chengweitang, it symbolizes inheritance and preservation, and it is also a new interpretation of the flavor in Shanghai style culture. Based on fresh and high–quality ingredients, the combination and blending of Chinese and Western techniques are used to create increasingly diverse flavors.
Entering the lobby of Chengweitang, one side is all floor–to–ceiling glass, facing the small tree-lined courtyard. After sitting down, you can admire the scenery in the courtyard, which is really enjoyable – an interesting experience. The restaurant has a total of six private rooms, each with its own style, serving different groups of customers.
The restaurant specializes in traditional jujube roast ducks and a variety of combination dishes that are both eye-catching and delicious. The cuisine here completely breaks the constraints of each region with a subtle combination of Cantonese, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Sichuan cuisine.
The dishes all pay attention to ancient cooking methods with a focus on emphasizing the flavors of the ingredients themselves. The restaurant manager said that this is a new interpretation of the meaning of “one dish, one flavor, many layers of flavors, complementing each other”.
