Wu Li Xiang 屋里香 is a Shanghainese restaurant that has won 2 Michelin stars ⭐️⭐️ for 4 consecutive years in Beijing.

The restaurant manager introduced to me that the name Wu Li Xiang comes from the pronunciation of the word “home” in the Shanghai dialect, which conveys the warmth of home for Beijing diners, with a team of Shanghainese chefs serving hometown dishes in the warm warmth of family. The menu is full of traditional dishes, including exquisitely crafted braised pork ribs, pickled winter melon and stuffed snails.

The chef personally brought the food to my table and introduced their cooking philosophy. The chef said that all things have a cyclical vitality: growing in spring, blooming in summer, harvesting in autumn, and preserving in winter – it is truly nature’s kind guidance to us in each stage. Only by preserving the original flavor of nature in cooking can we truly reflect the idea of ​​unity between nature and man. It is rare to find Shanghai cuisine that focuses on seasonal ingredients in Beijing.

This is also probably the most affordable 2-star Michelin restaurant in Beijing. However, although both the staff and the chef are extremely dedicated and attentive, I do not rate the quality of the food too highly. For me, the food is okay, the flavor is not outstanding, and there is no outstanding dish. For a restaurant that has won 2 Michelin stars for 4 consecutive years, I actually expected more. A good, cheap restaurant, but I personally wouldn’t go back again.
