So lucky to have made a reservation for lunch just 4 days away, knowing that dinner reservation will have to be made at least 3 months ahead! We pre-ordered the whole Smoked chicken with tea leaves while making reservation, it was absolutely succulent, tender and unique in flavour, the chicken is not very big so big eater should order whole for 4 persons. Another highlight of the meal was Crab with rice-roll (肠粉)pot, the slightly burnt flavour blended with generous ginger spring onion and chilli was simple irresistible. Prawn toasties were delightful and filled with super generous prawn meat! We didn’t order the chives with cuttlefish regrettably, instead we ordered stir fried giant grouper (龍躉) with onions. It was fresh, flavourful and generous in portion. The only disappointment was the old school sweet and sour pork, they were neither sweet enough nor sour enough in taste. Complimentary dessert pumpkin sago soup was smooth and lightly sweetened, a perfect way to finish off the meal. Most dishes were flavourful and appetising, highly recommended if you are into flavourful food. The service of the staff was top notch and excellent! The manager was so friendly and she would recommend popular dishes for you if you are unsure what to order.

very homey atmosphere - but their dishes did surprise me. we were lucky to be able to book a slot 2 weeks in advance. prawn toast: quite a big piece! very flavourful with generous amount of prawn paste. can order for sharing. vege (韭菜花銀魚小炒皇): 好爽口! a local dish that our local friend recommended. it’s really good. pigeon: crunchy skin and soft meat. but I think the taste is pretty ordinary claypot crab w rice roll: SUPER GOOD. crab was very fresh & sweet. Rice roll aka 肠粉很 Q & 很滑😍 tea baked chicken: super tender chicken with strong tea flavour. Very unique! cheese baked porkchop rice (min. 4pax portion): at this point I was already very full. served with fried egg. Very flavourful and tender pork chop. Overall we enjoyed our meal at hopsze cause it’s quite up to our liking (for Malaysian Cantonese).

The Michelin recommendations and months long waiting list for a dinner reservation give this place an exciting yet unnecessary allure of exclusivity. But the hype, anticipation, and expectations that come with securing a dinner here will only dampen your experience. Go for a weekday lunch instead where reservations are much, much easier to come by. Sans the hype, the home style Hong Kong specialties are hearty, delicious, and prepared with the utmost care. Make sure to get the crab cheong fun which comes ensconced in the aroma of wok hei and the famous, enormously portioned baked pork chop rice served in a bowl that could probably fit a newborn.
