Stayed here for 2 months in two of the older studio apartments with kitchen:
Good: Fair price for a 400sf Studio unit with kitchen Great location. Above Tai Koo MTR and 3-story Jusco department store and supermarket. Lots of buses to choose to go anywhere. Big oceanfront park nearby (MTR D1 exit). Cheaper wet and outdoor markets nearby. Lots and lots of restaurants and shops. Super convenient!! Management was polite and speedy service when needed Overall, despite all the negativities, family loved this service apartment. Would recommend to anyone! . . Bad: COCKROACH!!! We swatted a couple the first weeks we arrived. We didn't complain to management yet they performed pest extermination for the whole floor, possibly whole building. Obviously this is a wide-spread problem as someone else notified management. CLOGGED DRAINS in both the bathroom and kitchen sinks. Shouldn't be too hard to fix yet management didn't do anything with both our units, probably to entice you to much more expensive renovated units. We can live with slow draining sinks.... FIRE EXITS ARE LOCKED!! In case of a fire, you will sure be like smoked salmons if not BBQ porks! There are fire sprinklers in each room but still.... Not sure why there's a need to lock the stairs. The laundry room is on the 21st floor. If you live on the 17th floor like we did, you have to take the elevator down to the Ground floor, go across to the opposite side and take another elevator to the 21st. Vice versa, going back down to the 17th floor from the 21st is first take the lift down to the Ground floor, go across to the other side and take the lift to the 17th floor. You can't walk down from the 18th floor to the 17th because the STAIRS (FIRE EXITS) ARE LOCKED. Very sure that is against fire department regulations.... There is a freight elevator that goes to every floor but it's extremely slow moving!! LCD-TV is extremely dark. The reason being both of our room's TV were set to ECO mode. Disable eco mode and set the quality preset to Standard and the TV is back to normal, not the brightest but bright enough for watching. Management is sensitive about saving power but you have the option to leave the air-con running 24 hours a day. :D Any electronics that are plugged onto the wall-plug are also not affected by the main power button by the door. The main power switch only turns off two tiny lights and the induction stove. LOL!! We were lucky our two months stay our neighbours were very quiet. You do very clearly hear people talking in the hallway but that's very normal in every apartment or hotel. Our last week of stay we realized the walls are actually quite thin because our new neighbour have kids and we can hear them talk and play. Bummer :D Each unit comes with a WiFi router but they are pretty bad. Bring your own router! Broadband connection is only 100Mbps, so don't expect miracles but least it's quite stable :P We had no problems...
Read moreHandy location at Taikoo station with supermarkets, shops and restaurants nearby which is why we chose here..it's near work.||The apartment is large but drab and old...they are in the process of renovating apartments at the moment. We got a cheaper rate for staying 4 months BUT they did not inform us in advance of the renovations....we are moving because of the noise.||The noise and dust is awful from 10am to 6pm so be wary if you are considering staying here and will be in during the day. They say they should finish by September 2018.||Wifi is poor and intermittent, aircon doesn't work very well. Our fridge broke down and was replaced. The toilet and sinks regularly get blocked. Throughout the renovations, we lose electricty. They regularly require access for something or other...pest control, checking alarms, sprinkler systems etc. Water supply has been lost several times.||Although we are a couple in a 1 bed apartment, only one gym membership is included...a second one is very expensive. They offer one monogramed towel as a gift?!||There is a good gym but very few expats use it. The indoor pool is old and dated.||There are a couple of outdoor terraces which could be much better utilised if shade and seating were provided; but they have not been maintained. ||I have brought these issues to management; they said sorry and gave us 4 cinema passes which doesn't come near making up for the inconvenience we...
Read moreMy wife and I booked a one night stay at the Grand Plaza Hotel, Hong Kong. Unfortunately the booking was made for the day following our actual arrival. When we arrived at the Hotel, staff informed us that they had an identical room available, but wanted to charge us an additional $200 US. The staff also told us that we needed to contact the booking agency to change the date. As a result my wife had to make a telephone call to the UK, using a hotel telephone. The Hotel was later to charge us $50 for that call! While my wife was negotiating with the unhelpful staff, I was minding our children in the Hotel foyer. The foyer had about three or four staff members wearing black suits, prancing around the foyer, constantly berating children (including ours) about running around, being too noisy, having their feet on seats, etc. The manner of those staff members was totally inappropriate and Storm Trooper like. After about 90 minutes we were finally provided with an identical room to what we had booked, but charged the additional fee. The room was tiny and way overpriced. Breakfast is not included in the exorbitant fee. This hotel is very large and busy. Consequently it is quite noisy. The Hotel also had a staff member posted at the elevator foyer, who wanted to know what room number that you were staying in, every time that you used the elevator. Did not use the restaurant. Would never return...
