My Japanese friend was captivated by the poster with the fried rice with prawns on it outside the restaurant so I reluctantly went in knowing that these are product shots.
Anyway, my other friend had to do the ordering as they didn't really speak English.
I decided to try the congees and noodles as the stuff people were eating looked good.
The chicken congee was good but you have to be careful of brittle bones that can crack your teeth.
The wonton noodles were unexpectedly good as it was laced with sesame oil and the noodles had a good texture.
The stir fried flat noodles were a treat because they had a non beef version.
The stir fried soy sauce noodles were different too because you can choose with beef or liver so chose the liver.
There was more liver than the noodles itself but sadly the noodle texture was a bit too hard for my liking.
The steamed rice rolls turned out to be the best as they were not too soggy or chewy loaded with spring onions and dried shrimp.
I am now tempted to try the branch in mongkok but mk being mk, the quality might not be as good as...
Read more5*s for the chicken congee, everything else brought it down. It's very flavourful, not too salty but it's a touch on the watery side for my taste. The highlight is the chicken itself which is just delicious and worth ordering in its own right. I don't expect real service but I do like my table wiped down after the previous diners... Their "famous" leng yue kuw with the salty fermented sauce was just not good and their spicy beancurd morning glory was oddly sweet. It felt like they were onto a winning formula with their chicken congee and needed to build a "siu chow" menu around it to legitimise their business.
