金豪酒家 — Restaurant in Hong Kong

During our 2 week stay in HK we visited this authentic restaurant in Sham Shi Po. The place was lively and loud, just as it should be!! If you are looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant, this is the place for you!! The atmosphere brings back memories of when I was a kid having a family dinner on a Sunday.

The food was DELICIOUS!! It was hot, the portions matched the price, and most importantly, it was not salty and did not make me thirsty after dinner - this tells me that the MSG usage was next to nothing!! Definitely a hard quality to find in restaurants these days.

We ordered a steamed fish and razor clams, both were cooked wonderfully. We ordered the sweet and sour pork ribs, my son’s favorite. They were hot, meaty, and not too sweet! My daughter requested the stir fried Kai lan and beef. She almost ate the whole dish, the beef was tender and the veggies were crunchy and it wasn’t covered in oil. We ordered a roasted quail and it was juicy and tender. Finally, we ordered the salt and pepper squid, everyone in the family fought over the last piece.

The service was amazing. The waiters, managers, and staff were gracious, welcoming, and made sure we were taken care of.

The food is not great but decent. The only exception is that we ordered a steamed fish but apparently it's not thoroughly cooked so the meat still got stuck on the fish bones. Anyway, what really upsets us is we ordered 2 fried pigeons because my daughters wanted to try, and after a long wait we realized they totally forgot...then they said they still had one...then they said they didn't have it a few min later. Ordered two bowls of rice and they forgot again...then sent us one only after repeated requests.... At the end they offered no discount or compensation. My impression is if you are in a big group of people placing huge order, they will treat you nicely, but don't try this one if you are just a small family. They are so understaffed so obviously won't value smaller...

Food portion and quality on par with the price tag.

But service-wise is poor, you will need to wait for 50 minutes even you have reserve a table at specific time. No reason is given and no one comes to help in any means.

Orders are missing unless you chase over and over.

Only cash/FPS (some form of bank direct debit) is accepted, so get prepared if you are interested.
