If you're into soy milk and tofu pudding, you have to try Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong for authentic tofu everything. I'm not a big fan of tofu pudding and even I thought this amazing top quality tofu! The shop has been here for a long time, and they're famous among locals and tourists, so you'll almost always see nonstop commotion into and out of the shop. Since you're not really there to eat a whole big meal, chances are you'll probably get seated next to other strangers who are awaiting delicious tofu pudding as well.
It's always interesting to sit and people watch. A lot of locals call out orders as they walk into the restaurant, and the workers immediately yell out the orders to the chef who promptly make and serve the food. You'll get your food in less than 5 minutes.
The most popular dish is probably their tofu pudding. You can order it hot or cold, and it's only $10 HKD, which is about $1 to $1.50 USD per bowl. The tofu is made fresh every single day, so you're guaranteed super fresh tofu pudding every time you come here. The pudding is plain when it's served to you, and you can add as much sugar from the condiments as you want. I like my tofu pudding sweet, so I seriously doused my pudding in sugar. I feel like eating it hot probably melts the sugar better than eating it cold, but I definitely like cold desserts more. Tofu goes down smooth and sweet - very similar to almond jello except the consistency is so much smoother. Highly recommend!
The soy bean milk is also super authentic and probably the best soy milk I've ever had. You can order the soy milk hot or cold, sweetened or unsweetened. And you can order the soy milk in different sizes I believe. I always get the cold sweetened soy milk. You can seriously taste the soy beans and how healthy the overall drink is, but with the added sugar, the drink is amazing. A lot better than the ones you get in the paper cartons at the local supermarkets.
Hot soy milk isn't really my preference, but I thought it had good soy bean flavor.
We also tried the fried tofu. One of the workers stands at the front of the store and simply fries these tofu and tofu puffs, so they're served fresh all day. You have to add soy sauce to give it some flavor (probably best to poke a small hole in the middle and drizzle the soy sauce inside to let the tofu absorb the saltiness. Even though it was fried, the outside wasn't too crispy and retained the smoothness of the tofu. Super soft as you slice through it, and the tofu goes down super smooth! Even though it probably wasn't the healthiest dish (you can see a lot of oil), it tasted good!
We were in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. My dad is the biggest fan of soy milk and we walked 30 minutes just to buy a cup of soy milk a few days later, so it definitely has his stamp of approval!
tl;dr - The best spot for tofu and soy milk! A must try if you're...
Read moreWasn’t intending to come here but after late gadget shopping, found out there’s a tofufa place nearby. Was intended to go to Kowloon city for dessert cause was craving for some cocopudding.
This was a disappointing trip based on a couple factors. If the food wasn’t that good but the staff was trying to make you feel comfortable and happy because they appreciate the customers coming, that would definitely be a four-star rating cause I know perhaps the food was a one-off situation. However, if you company isn’t trying to serve people and kept a grumpy face at customers while listening to y’all talking loud about closing, May I suggest a few tips:
Leave a sign out saying you are closed so no one will approach your shop. I felt dumb spending $25 there without feeling happy about it.
Or, tell customers to wait so that we know where to stand instead of getting y’all pissed off. No one wins.
In terms of the tofufa. Cheung sha wan has better ones, best even. Tai po ah po as well. Even the one over in admiralty which a finger sticking into the pudding has better texture.
I have never encountered a tofufa shop giving such a bad vibe to me! Never in my life. Always had great time trying new ones. With big smiley faces. I have regretted watching the YouTube video and believing that this...
