I would have given zero star if I could. This place was a huge disappointment. Despite the balloons flying everywhere and the cliché American interior design, the food and service were horrible and not worthy of the price and visit.
We ordered a steak, potato skins, carbonara and a seafood risotto, and upgraded every dish to the bigger size for sharing among five people. The portions were still small and I could not imagine what that would be like had we ordered the smaller portions.
But I felt fortunate the portions for carbonara and seafood risotto were small, because they are by far the worst that I've had in my life. None of us could take a bite of the carbonara without IMMEDIATELY spitting it out. It smelt and tasted like STINKY FISH, and I could only imagine the chef was using the same pot that cooked fish before making the carbonara in it - WITHOUT EVER WASHING IT. Apart from the taste of stinky fish, the pasta was virtually tasteless and oily.
The seafood risotto was another huge disappointment. Immediately after we put a spoonful into our mouths, we tasted sand. It's a sign that the mussels weren't washed thoroughly. The shrimps were overcooked. The rice was tasteless and the fish that got mixed in it tasted like they just came out of the fridge without any defrosting and seasoning.
Both dishes tell us the food here were put together hastily, with poor hygiene and no care. By the time everyone spit out the carbonara, we were all super enraged but resisted the urge to break it out to the staff or the kitchen. Because what can we expect? They might make another carbonara and risotto for us but would we really want to put something from that kitchen in our mouths after what just happened?
To their credit, the only good thing I can say about the food is the basket of bread and muffins which were lightly baked and served warm. The steak was tender but the fries were dry and overdone.
I know we ordered two items which aren't exactly what you'd expect at an American restaurant. But if you're not good at making those things, why put them on the menu at all? I'd rather you just serve what you're good at or don't serve that at all, so that no customers get a terrible experience like we did.
The service was another thing I have to let out. No one came to refill our water, and they looked like they really didn't enjoy their jobs. It took a while for anyone to look our way and even when we were waving our hands enthusiastically. I should say this is really common in Hong Kong but this is not acceptable given the price and its location, supposedly serving higher...
Read moreDisaster, I was beyond disappointed, my experience was regettably the worst since a very long time, prior pandemic. May I say I never complain, so this is a very rare occurance. Its a hard industry at the best of times, so i fully respect the hardships had by all F&B institutions.....but....this needs to be shared!. Upon arriving at Dan Ryans, the host seemed really like we were doing her a disservice by coming in and wanting to dine for a late lunch on her working day. Not really a anything welcome.... scan QR code, then she walked away with us and showed us our table, zero interaction. Then, the service staff did not interact with my children my helper or myself. The menu's were dropped onto our table, and later after waving my hand all over the place, someone came to take our order. Now, In the hospitality industry the basic fundamentals should be expressed such as...- a hello, here is your menu, enjoy your food, how was your meal - thank you for coming..... None of the phrase examples were used. The food was equally disappointing, if not worse. Unseasoned burger patties, dry and cracked sausage in my daughters hot dog, dry carrot cake, zero passion or ownership in its execution was taken. I dined on July 18th and settled my bill at 2.53pm. The server on my check's name was (as I can see from the faded receipt)....603 KOEE K, table 3/1. A newly arrived on shift, female servers grooming standards were also poor. she had her oversized long sleeve shirt (cuffs) so long over her hands, you could barely see her fingertips. On the floor were 5 servers, 1 host, a bar man, a chef walking over to the bar area in uniform to take a soda, and after sipping it in the bar area, walk back through the dining room, assumably back to the kitchen. The only interaction we had was when leaving, the bar man aknowledged us and said thanks bye bye. After spending $810.70, I am surely to go tothe japanese burger place across from Dan Ryans, or even head to McDonalds where there standards are always on point, as far as fast food eateries are concerned. So sad, seeing as though restaurants have suffered so much during the pandemic, one would think that keeping guests happy, and trying to retain customers would be on the top of the agenda. But at Dan Ryans Festival walk.... not the case!. I shall not return, nor reccomend!. I only put 1 star as if i put zero, I could not post this...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill was a mix of highs and lows, showcasing the stark contrast between exceptional service from the waitstaff and lackluster management oversight.
Upon arriving at the restaurant with my children around 7:30 pm, we found ourselves waiting for a host to greet us for an uncomfortable five minutes. Despite the restaurant's seemingly relaxed atmosphere, our initial impression was marred by the sight of a hostess engrossed in her mobile phone near the bar, seemingly unaware of our presence. The bartender attempted to assist but was unable to get her attention. Finally, when the hostesses did approach us, their unprofessional behavior—speaking with food in their mouths and lacking basic greetings—left much to be desired.
Thankfully, our dining experience took a turn for the better once we were seated. We ordered a variety of pasta dishes and a ribeye to share, and each dish surpassed our expectations. The pasta was rich and flavorful, perfect for satisfying the kids' appetites, while the ribeye was cooked to perfection—juicy and tender. The dessert, a sweet conclusion to our meal, left us thoroughly satisfied.
However, what truly stood out was the exceptional service provided by our waiters. Their warm and attentive demeanor made us feel welcomed and cared for throughout the evening. Their genuine hospitality was evident in every interaction, from offering menu recommendations to ensuring our glasses were never empty.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the management or senior staff. Their lack of engagement and apparent disinterest in providing genuine hospitality was disappointing. Instead of embodying the spirit of service, they seemed more concerned with maintaining a sense of authority, with expressions that bordered on sternness rather than warmth. Their behavior, including snacking before the sideboard and lacking smiles, detracted from the overall dining atmosphere.
In conclusion, while Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill delivered on its promise of delicious food and warm service from dedicated waitstaff, there is room for improvement in terms of management oversight and front-of-house operations. With a more cohesive team effort and a renewed focus on hospitality, this establishment has the potential to provide an even more exceptional dining experience...
