Sze Sun Hamburger — Restaurant in Kowloon

Sze Sun is an old-school, Hong Kong style burger joint in Whampoa. They are located along Tak Hong Street and are open from 10am to 7.30pm daily. There is a fair sized indoor seating area. Order at the counter as you enter. Wall and main menus are in Chinese only but they have English menu as well so not to worry.

Ordering is fairly simple, choose beef or pork patty, single or double, with cheese, egg and/or ham. Burger comes with a slap of house sauce that is similar to mayo. This is their HK style burger. They have a range of sides and drinks to choose from as well. Their onion rings are large and really good, go well with the Sze Sun burger. Service is pretty quick, prices are reasonable for what is served and the burgers taste...

I can't find a fault with this place. Food is cheap and tasty staff seems friendly. Incidentally so far this is my favourite milk tea in the wampoa and hung hom area!

$86 HKD for two double burgers with egg and a iced milk tea. Very reasonable.

The sauce and meat is a highlight. I prefer the original sauce but there is also a curry sauce if that's your fancy. The burger meat is surprisingly juicy with a ice flavour.

I've read various reviews saying the price is too high. Two can eat for less than one compared to other burger bars in this area so really have no idea what they are talking about.

Nostalgic is the word I have seen in reviews from others, and I concur with it. This was my first visit in many years after they had moved. I ordered my burger with double patty, cheese and egg, fries and onion rings. I personally think the meat texture is on the softer side, very similar to a US burger outlet, White Castle that serves burgers with softer bread and meat patty in small sizes. All in all, I feel their burger taste is uniquely Hong Kong, and for me, they were tasty even though a bit pricey. For the fries and onion rings, I would say, I would order an extra burger or even two; enjoy them; and skip...
