Sanmalu Restaurant — Restaurant in Shanghai

Located in a nondescript area close to Nanjing Road, this was by far our favourite restaurant in Shanghai. We arrived at 7pm on a weekday, got a number from the counter, and waited for about 20mins for a table. Every single dish was so darn good and ridiculously cheap (veggie dishes cost around 5 USD and meat dishes cost around 10 USD)! I felt this place served the best braised pork in Shanghai, and one of our favourites was the stir-fried long beans and eggplant. Honourable mention goes to the deep-fried yellow croaker, which puts British fish & chips to shame. Not surprisingly, we were back here for dinner...

We were pleased with our choices, except for the fried rice, which was disappointing. The portion was small for the price, and it only contained diced ham, carrots, and a few chopped prawns.

The location is convenient, just two streets away from Nanjing walking street. The restaurant is located behind the Grand Central Hotel and can be easily found on Google Maps, which is helpful...

Great restaurant with delicious food at very reasonable prices! My wife and I had four dishes and rice - everything was just perfect. and we paid about 13 Eur… But the best was sweet and sour soup so rich in flavour that can easily serve 4 at about 3 Eur… The atmosphere is nice - we were sitting outside, no problem to find seats as 5pm, but later there was a queue.
