Shangri-La Hotel Ballroom — Restaurant in Shanghai

Did I eat at the same restaurant as everybody else? Or did I just happen to pick their worst performing night to dine here.

489RMB a person, not cheap. Walked in and had to find a waiter myself to seat us.

Plates and cups were dirty to the point where I had to wipe them before getting food. Restaurant staff had lousy attitudes. Making eye contact with customers before looking away to avoid answering questions. Verbally complaining to each other about being understaffed. Staff had to be asked to clear tables after being seated and eating for over 40 minutes without anyone coming to check on us. For a seafood buffet, the fish was not fresh at all. Salmon still had untrimmed fat and bits of skin and blood veins on it. As we were still eating, the waiter came over to ask us to sign the bill. This was nearly 90 minutes before closing time. Upon seeing no tip given, disappointment was evident on her face.

The most delicious thing there were the desserts - which were obviously purchased elsewhere. The 5-6 different flavors of sorbet were all nearly empty to the point that the server had to scrap multiple times to gather one single ball. The fruit was not bad either. I'm glad they weren't able to mess up fruit too.

What a gorgeous hotel. I frequent many Hilton's for work and I can say this is a far superior experience all around. I loved the service, the size and cleanliness of the rooms. The lounge is great if you have access. You must try their breakfast on the 2nd floor even if it isn't complimentary. So many options so little time. Imagine the ledo deck of a ship but with superb food choices from...
