I've been going here for the past 3 years, and it's really changed and not for the better.
First off, they got rid of the cute huts and made it more generic now. So the ambiance is lacking a bit now. The main issue is the food though.
Sadly, the food is not as good as it used to be. For some strange reason the chicken was neon pink??? Why are you adding food coloring to the food. It was never like this previously. And the chicken Masala was not a creamy red sauce, but instead a thick brown odd paste. 🤔 So it was neon pink chicken in a brown paste. I don't get what has happened to the food.
To make things worse. I have a gluten allergy. I told them, like I always do and all the items I order are listed as gluten-free. Yet, I was vomiting 🤢 on my way home, uncontrollably while I was driving, and my stomach started hurting while I was still at the restaurant. So something had gluten or monosodium glutamate(msg) in it. MSG causes a allergic reaction in those allergic to gluten. I suspect the neon pink chicken. I have a huge trip planned and I'm scared this event will be ruined as I'm currently largely bloated and swollen( it includes a modeling). Please train ALL of your staff on gluten allergies, especially when the menu has gluten free items listed.
They also didn't bring me the thin gluten free cracker style bread that they usually do. I don't get what has happened to the lack of quality.
The waitress also didn't understand their 2 for 1 drinks and tried to charge us for 2 drinks, instead of the listed special. 🙄
It looks like I'm going to be trying some Indian food options in Tamarindo as several...

The food at Masala is like nowhere else, not only in Costa Rica. We eat a lot of Indian cuisine across the world and this one is truly one of the best. Tried number of dishes if not all of them as we've been group of 8 and shared both starters as well as main dishes.
Service was also outstanding and they do it regardless if you're alone or big group. My evening started there alone, whilst I didn't even know if would stay to it or just will have mango lassi. They were happy to accommodate me and serve. Some minutes later we've decided that rest of the group will join instead of going elsewhere and it was best ever decision. We've also had some people from our group returning the day after for lunch - let it speak for the quality of service and food!
It was fun evening with amazing food.
p.s. if you've a chance - try lentilles based dish, it was liked by everyone and everyone said that never ate anything like that - amazing and tasty. All food had great spices and wasn't just "hot" as it is often at some places.

Read moreMasala Indian Restaurant at Brasilito serves Indian food with a Costa Rican twist! We were started with a plate of crispy fried dough along with mango, tamarind, and herb chutneys; and we continued with the Tandoori Vegetables, a plate of broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, onions, and potatoes in a savory, spiced yogurt marinade cooked in a tandoor oven. But next came the Costa Rican twist: the Masala Red Snapper Sizzler was a whole local red snapper cooked in a tandoor oven with Indian spices and topped with tomato, onion, and peppers, all served on a sizzling metal plate. My favorite dish was the Masala Salmon Coconut Curry, made of chunks of marinated salmon in a delicious coconut curry sauce seasoned with mustard seeds, onion, and spices. The creamy, earthy coconut curry went nicely with the Bread Basket we ordered, which came with one each of garlic naan, potato kulcha, laccha paratha, and tandoori roti. Overall, the dishes here were all flavorful and nicely spiced, and the tropical, beachy setting made for a lovely dining...
