It could be great, but it isn’t yet. The potential is there: nice place, nice people, good location. But…
Leaf-blower. No. Use a broom or leave the leaves there. It's noisy, annoying, useless. Just no.
No hot water in showers. Unacceptable at any price point but specially at this one
They don't leave the remote for the AC in the room. I get that people are jerks and leave it on all day long but just do what you are doing now, turn it off after checkout time, but don't take the remote away. Every single night was either way too cold or way too hot. Not a problem in any other hostel.
Wi-Fi was flimsy at best. And sometimes there was none at the pool.
The private rooms are good. A bit of a weird smell but nothing major.

They went above and beyond to ensure that I had a great stay|My dorm room was comfortable and quiet with a huge en suite bathroom. There are a whole bunch of extra showers and toilets all around the property.and they're kept clean. You'll never have to wait .||The pool is one of the best pools that I've ever seen at a hostel. The grounds itself are dotted in fruit trees and have hundreds of birds and some cool wildlife to see. ||The hostel bar is always running good offers in the evening.||The kitchen is decently equipped and large enough for a lot of people to work together. ||The AC in the dorm works well. Most people would just end up sitting on rocks at the side of the road if they wanted to get a smoke. |The shower pressure in the bathroom wasn't great. But there was always warm water, so...
Read moreI stayed there for 4 nights and it was among the best hostels we've stayed at in Central America. There is a lovely pool, which is kept clean all the time and a pool bar with DJ music at happy hour. ||Rooms have AC at night and hot water. There is a resident sloth which appears from time to time. The local cat is absolutely adorable. ||||The common open kitchen is very nice and allows to meet other travellers. THere were many digital nomads when I was there. There are outlets in severa areas and internet is good. ||||The staff is really nice!||Location is perfect, as it is just off the main road. You don't need earplugs at night to sleep, but you are close enough to vibrant Puerto Viejo to walk everywhere. ||||El Clan is the place to be to meet people, be close to everywhere, get some work done and enjoy a higher standard o comfort compared to other hostels. ||||There a re lockers outside the rooms.
