If you value going to a new restaurant and eating excellent food w/ gorgeous presentation and if you value being treated like family by owners that treat you like familiar guests than this will be your new favorite spot in town.
I came here unsure of what to find, but quickly found the owners helped to find exactly what i was looking for on the menu. (available in both english and spanish)
And while the food is the best "spanish" food i've found outside of spain, they also offer local costa rica favorites like gallo pinto and a variety of fresh fruit and veggie smoothies.
Portions: Perfectly satisfying leaving you ready to jump up and start the day as opposed so large that you feel like a glutton after finishing a beautifully garnished plate.
Presentation: An understated artistic expression of minimalism. simple, and delectable
Coffee: Coffee is average, skip the coffee and go for the best smoothie in town.
Ambience: Clean Minimalism feels like a hip juice cafe w/ bright & cheery colors
Highly recomend:
Spanish tortilla: - if you like traditional spanish style you will love the creamy inside of this tortilla. If soft cooked eggs make your stomach week, try another menu offering like they're amazing savory crepes.
Crepes: vareity of savory and sweet options stuffed w/ anything from top notch cured spanish ham, imported cheeses or nutella deliciousness. Bar none, best crepe in town.
Smoothie: TROPICAL Blend- you're in the caribean! get this blend of the tropics most delectable fresh fruits- which are unavailbe in other parts of the world!
Desert: very good chocolate cake that has a light crust on the outside while miraculously maintaining a moist interior that is rarely achieved in...
Read moreI was overcharged because I'm a tourist.
Edit: The owner is trying to come at me saying I ordered a whole meal and saying things like "they held my things" so I can go to the beach? Which all these statements are false. I simply ordered "cafe con leche" priced at 1000 ea. Gave them cash and ended up being charged 700 more than that for each. I'm not sure where this whole story about me ordering a complete breakfast came from acting so confident that this is the right transaction, but this is why as tourist you should ALWAYS double check the bill and count your item totals. Just because we aren't from there means that we are loaded with money and I have a budget too, mind you the coffee is at a decent price but being charged more than what is listed isn't cool and on top of that the coffee wasn't that good. In this case the server who helped us didn't give us a receipt or anything and just told the lady what to charge, and top of that he was just on his phone outside the restaurant since we were the only ones there, we had to catch the bus back to SJ so I didn't feel like fighting for a couple of dollars. So I left this review and now the owner is fabricating whole stories and talking about "be a better human" LOL. This is why I let my girlfriend who is tica pay the bill with my money half the time in places like PV because not everyone is about "Pura Vida" and try to get a little more out of tourist, all my friends from SJ say to be careful in Jaco and PV because of...
Read moreBest French Toast in Town!
Ah, Puerto Viejo – the paradise on the Caribbean coast where the ocean whispers and palm trees sway. Tucked away from the beach lies a hidden gem: a little lunch spot called Port Vell that elevates French toast to an art form. The scent of freshly baked bread fills the air, and each bite of their French toast is like a ray of sunshine on your tongue. Perfectly golden brown, with a subtle sweetness that leaves you craving more – it's as if the chef waved a magic wand.
But wait, there's more! If you thought your breakfast couldn't get any better, try their scrambled eggs. These eggs are a masterpiece in their own right – cooked to perfection, not too runny and certainly not overdone. Each bite is a harmony of soft and creamy, a symphony of flavors that makes your heart skip a beat. This lunch spot in Puerto Viejo is a true discovery, a place where breakfast becomes an unforgettable experience....
