The Mercadito is an outdoor food court located halfway down Intercultura street towards the beach. It has a variety of about 10 food shacks serving food truck type foods (eg food you can make in small kitchens).
The Mercadito has really improved over the years, going from a small lot with a food bus (Fox5 gastro bus) to a dusty gravel lot with a 5 food shacks in the hot sun (Aldea) evolving into the Mercadito, which has cement pads, sun shades, better lighting, good signs, twice as many food options and a full bar called Heritage.
During high season, there are musicians that play the Mercadito, giving it a nice atmosphere. The types of food offered bring wonderful variety to the typical Costa Rica fare, including Italian, Curry, Poke, fruit smoothies, soft serve yogurt, Colombian and Argentinian foods.
The seating arrangement isn't always clear, leaving a person to wonder if they are sitting at the wrong businesses tables but the food stand owners are pura vida about it.

There is a burger place, bar, Italian place, frozen yogurt, Indian place, an Argentina empanada place, and another restaurant that I believe may be Columbian (I apologize if I got the country wrong, it is new and I haven't tried it yet). They often have live music, they have weekly art classes for kids. They also do clothing swaps and garage sales here, usually monthly. I highly recommend...
Read morePLEASE turn the music off after 9 pm or at least 10 pm. We are at the hostel in front and after 9 pm, everyone knows it should be quiet time out of respect. Sunday night you stopped the music at 9 pm but now it is still playing at almost 10 pm and we just want to go to sleep. Please learn some respect and stop the music at 9/10 pm, or at least turn it way down at 9...
