MAR Y FUEGO — Restaurant in Sámara

We just had dinner in with our friends. Place is welcoming and cozy. Unfortunately we have waited 1,5hr for 2 pizzas and 1 poke bowl. It was a big table next to us but the restaurant was half empty. No apologies from stuff for long waiting. Pizzas were really good, fresh, well done, good size, reasonable price. Poke bowl was really expensive for what it was. Super tiny. Almost no rice. Iam small women and i went home hungry. We also order plate of homemade chips which were super oily and came really late, looking more like a complementary snack then an item from a menu. Our server and pizza chef were the only sympathetic people, the rest of the stuff didnt smile and almost looked like we even bother them with our presence. I would think twice...

I would have given 4.5 but chose 5, the rib eye was very well done, potatoes a little raw, pizza was one of the best I’ve had in a while and I made pizza at 3 restaurants… years ago! 🤣 pizza was the slightly chewy kind with just the right amount of char/crunch on the crust.. I take pride in finding the best pizza spots. The tartar was a little strange with some fried pieces, good flavor but I wouldn’t order again. Lacked a bit of fish. Good music in the background. Waiter was great, local great tico. Very competent and attentive. No real complaints, would definitely return for sure order...

I can’t say enough good things about this place. A welcoming environment, friendly, attentive service, tasty beverages and some of the best food I’ve had in Costa Rica. We had the ceviche, lobster tacos and pizza. Nice portion sizes. The “standard” pizza is a large in American sizing. The ceviche was a healthy portion of deliciousness. The lobster tacos were out of this world and the wood-fired pizza was yum! All of the food was perfect with great flavor. It was one of those, so full but couldn’t stop eating experiences.
