Best new Indian restaurant in Costa Rica, Potrero (near Flamingo) Costa Rica! I live in Jaco, Costa Rica, where there are 3 good Indian restaurants, so last night we wanted to try Masala, because although this is a new restaurant, their others had received the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for three years in a row, & after last week, now we know why! I'm very happy to say that from the moment we walked in, greeted by a smiling Sashi, into a very nice, open air restaurant, with comfortably spaced tables, very nicely designed restaurant. The menu was well written, with good explanations, & surprisingly a very good variety of other ethnic foods, like a thai type curry plus a dish similar to pad thai. We were 5 people, 3 guys + 2 women ( mid 40's), finally we started with the 2 types of garlic nan, 1 order crispy & 1 order soft. Delicious- BUT even better were the 4 sauces that came with them. 0f course, Tamarind, Mint, Spicy, Mango, all were great. The spiciness had me asking for Lassi (make sure you specify if you want a little salty or very sweet!). Sashi, made them really tasty! Next came the chicken samosas, and again excellent! Then came our entrees to share: one chicken masala-one of the best ever; one shrimp masala-perfectly cooked & spiced; one lamb vindaloo-best i ever had; The famous basmati rice was so fantastic, that one of the women said, this was her new favorite rice!!! And the pad thai was delicious, and uniquely different than the Thai version (no bean sprouts!). We were stuffed, so i asked if there was a dessert drink with rum, and Sashi said oh yes, we're famous for our Piña Coladas! Wow, it was great, and my new favorite dessert drink. We loved the food, the prices were good for the quantities, our waitress-host Sashi, and the Chef cooked everything to perfection. Can't wait to try the curries, the shishkabobs, & of course the tandoori! We hope that soon they will open up for lunch and have a Menu Ejecutivo. I love this new Masala...
Read moreI have had wonderful dining experiences at the Brasalito location but my visit to Potrero was a swing and a miss. The tandoori lamb chops and bhati ka jhingha were shockingly overcooked and the chicken coco malai curry was underwhelming. Somehow even the garlic naan lacked flavor. My friend ordered a martini and, while I didn’t try it, everyone else agreed it should be sent back. There were literally two tables in the restaurant and the server acted completely put out. Some of the support staff did try to help us with the play list to salvage the evening and I think they were really trying but, in the end, there were simply too many wrongs to make right. Other reviews are glowing which leaves me puzzled. Our bill was $245 for three people which would normally afford a memorable dining experience but, sadly,I will remember it for all the...
Read moreAn Exceptional Dining Experience at Masala, Playa Potrero. I recently visited Masala restaurant in Playa Potrero with a friend, and it was a great culinary experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and treated with genuine care. We decided to sample several dishes from the menu, and each one was excellent, beautifully presented, full of flavor, and well executed. Masala truly delivered on every plate. Special thanks to Sashy, the manager, whose attentiveness made the evening even more memorable. She ensured we felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout the entire dinner. If you’re in Playa Potrero and want to enjoy delicious cuisine, impeccable service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere, Masala is an...
