I went to Lorito knowing it had changed hands with Geraldo retiring from the original Sol y Mar. I'm always open to something new, even though we have been going there for 14 years and been treated like family.
The place looks good, not much change there. Our waiter (Helbert) was a nice enough guy, other than he can't remember anything, I was ok with that thinking that he was new to waiting tables. He informed us he was a seasoned waiter from Tamarindo, so the warning flag went up. We had to ask twice for silverware, plates. water, wine, and salad dressing. There was only 6 people in the place.
Ok, moving on, anyone can have a bad night. The Pargo was 12K colones for 500 grams, insane, even today. The salad came on a SAUCER, huh? You might as well eat off the table. The vegetables consisted of 3 slices of squash, and 1 tomatoe slice. Besides being small for the price, the snapper was overcooked. Fries were fine. Guacamole and chips was a little lame, but OK. The new owner is trying to max his profits on the wine, it was cheap stuff.
Hopefully with time they can turn it around, and we will try again. I can't understand the previous reviews, I noticed that some reviewers were first time reviewers, that is a little...
Read moreWe got lunch here after spending the morning at Playa Penca nearby. I had some excellent grilled chicken and vegetables that tasted even better with this delicious hot sauce our server brought us. The server (who may have been the owner as well?) was very kind and enthusiastic to share when we asked about the fruit growing on a nearby tree. And for what it's worth, their tables had great wood! Great experience all around. If you are staying in this area, you won't regret giving Lorito...

And he will share the local history and cultural significance of each dish with you, which is part of what makes this experience so special. You...
