Well...last evening was rather disappointing.
All started seemingly well. I had booked and turned up at 7pm. I had been recommended this place and was fairly excited by the photos/videos too.
So. I turn up on my own as it's a solo vacation, skimmed the menu and order the seafood delicacies for starters, baked cockerel for main and olives and a beer to snack on/start.
My beer and olives were served quickly within 2 to 4 min. From there it goes downhill.
The table to my left gets served my starter, whilst it seemed they already had their own. I hadn't realised until their meal starter had been eaten and they were left with mine. Obviously, being seafood, I was not happy with the offer to put the plate on my table, after around 10 minutes or so. Especially with the heat in Dubrovnik. So I asked for a fresh replacement. All would be solved now and I can progress, or so I thought.
My chicken arrives soon after I finish, which I had asked to be about 45min after my starter, in order to let it settle, with the menu stating it takes 30mins to prepare for the cockerel dish anyway. So another batch of bad service.
By the time my main arrives I asked for a pint of draught instead of the Pan Lemon. This took until close to finishing my main - another 15min. With a clear emphasis by staff to serve a much larger table, which I can only assume is due to a possibly larger tip. They also had the addition of some showmanship with a hammer and hammering and scooping some.sort of large dish between their table.
I then got asked if I'd like a dessert menu, and out of politeness agreed to peruse it. I didn't get one obviously.
The couple initially served my starter order the bill, and they were told they could offer a tip via the card machine. And I order my bill/check after they have just paid. The bill comes quickly, and I'd offered to pay with card.
It takes another 10-15min to even be seen to have my money, which in the meantime staff seemingly ignored me as three of them cleared the larger table - that had a cover of 8, 2 being kids.
So eventually I get given the card machine and no utterance of asking for a tip. So seems they knew themselves that they messed up a fair bit. Despite no discount or real apology.
For the price and service, it really isn't worth it. Unless maybe you have a large table that they seem keener to attend too.
Rather disappointing. Plus with my amount of reviews, I'm a bit more than a disgruntled one time reviewer.
Really would not recommend. Most expensive meal, for the lowest quality I've had in the past 4 days. 72€ for everything combined...
Read moreVery very disappointed with this experience. Sad to say that on the last day of our stay we fell into this tourist trap of a restaurant! Do not spend your money here. You can have much higher quality dinner for basically the same price at the Arsenal!!! Exorbitant prices charged at Restaurant Kopun for low quality meals.
First, the overcharging is apparent with the starter: this serving of the capon ragu is 20€. It’s so small that it would fit into a single serving with a ladle. It’s also supposed to have home made gnocchi with it - we counted 5 of them in this serving. They also were not soft but you had to bite through them = not fresh. During the two weeks of visiting Croatia we definitely did have amazing homemade gnocchi in other places and this was not it. The rest of ragu is clearly kept somewhere in a pot through the evening and not freshly made as it arrived in less than 5 minutes. In any case, this was the best dish of all in comparison.
When the mains came that’s where it was obvious that we fell into the trap. I ordered calamari with beetroot, cheese and almond salad (price 24€) - I wouldn’t have thought of beetroot as a good companion to calamari, but it was worded nicely on the menu and I thought to give it a go in hopes to experience some special and unique Croatian flavour here. The dish was awful and sickening!!!! It was so upsetting. The beetroot was literally the kind you can buy yourself in vacuum packs and the calamari were in a sweet tomato sauce that totally did not go with the beetroot. I also couldn’t see any almonds - in fact I found precisely two.
My partner ordered the fish of the day which itself was fine; it came served with literally one spoon of potato mash spread out and oven baked vegetables with oregano that were nothing special. The price: 27€!! We had dined in other places where for this price you get an actual high end quality meal.
The service was lovely and I felt bad for the waiter who was nice and accommodating. The only thing I initially enjoyed that evening was a glass of wine which was also pricey. Unfortunately it did not go well with my main meal at all (way too sweet) - and it was recommended by the waiter as a good choice…
Overall the bill came to 86 euros. They also don’t serve any tap water. A very disappointing experience and I really think it is not worthwhile spending...
Read moreMy visit to Kopun in Dubrovnik offered a mixed experience, earning it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
On the positive side, I tried the traditional Dubrovnik rooster dish and the Dubrovnik almond and orange cake, both of which were enjoyable. The rooster dish was flavorful and well-prepared, offering a nice taste of local cuisine. The cake was a delightful end to the meal, with a lovely balance of almond and citrus flavors. The prices at Kopun were in line with what we encountered at other restaurants in Dubrovnik, so no surprises there.
However, there were a couple of downsides to our experience. First, the homemade iced tea we ordered was disappointing—it tasted more like flavored water than actual iced tea. It lacked the refreshing, full-bodied flavor we were hoping for.
Another issue we encountered was when it came time to pay the bill. While we appreciated that they were willing to split the bill, we were surprised to find that we couldn’t pay part in cash and part by card. It was either all cash or all card, which was quite inconvenient. This was the only restaurant during our entire stay in Dubrovnik where this was a problem, while all others had no issues accommodating mixed payments.
Overall, Kopun served up good food with a taste of Dubrovnik’s culinary traditions, but the payment policy and disappointing iced tea took away from the experience. It’s still worth a visit if you’re interested in trying local dishes, but be prepared for some issues when it comes to paying the bill. A 3 out of 5 stars...
