I wished I read TripAdvisor first.
I ordered oysters, a black cuttlefish risotto and an americano (I’ll come to this later) because I am quite lactose intolerant. I waited 15 mins before a sullen/bored looking waitress took my order - but never mind, it’s ok… perhaps she’s had a bad day.
The food came fairly quickly, coffee, oysters and then the risotto. Oysters were small, but very good and fresh.
I didn’t notice that I was served a cappuccino until later, as I was busy with the oysters. I immediately flagged for the same waitress. Here’s how the conversation went.
Me: hi, there’s milk in the coffee Waitress: of course there’s milk, you ordered a cappuccino Me: I ordered an americano Waitress: no, you ordered a cappuccino Me: ok, can I change the drink to an americano? I’ll pay for the cappuccino Waitress: of course you will.
The last sentence was quite unnecessary and downright nasty. A simple ‘okay’ would do. I was sure I ordered an americano because I can’t drink milk based coffee.
The much raved about risotto on reviews is really not good. A good squid ink pasta/risotto has a distinctive umami seafood flavour that is slightly sweet. This version is just drowning in olive oil, there is no flavour in general and definitely has none of the umami flavour. I was so tempted to sprinkled some salt to the risotto but didn’t think it could save this dish.
For the quality, I don’t think it’s...
Read moreKamenice is my favorite place in Dubrovnik. I went there several times during my week-long stay in this beautiful city and I was delighted every time. The service is very friendly, experienced and speaks English very well. You can talk to them about various topics, learn interesting stories about the city, the square and the tradition of feeding pigeons. The food is delicious and fresh, and the portions are large and reasonably priced. I ate there octopus salad, fried fish, squid, mussels, risotto, shrimp and many other dishes. Everything was exquisite and served with delicious bread. I also drank white wine from the island of Korcula, which was very good and inexpensive. From the restaurant you can admire the view of the square, the stairs from the Game of Thrones series and a small market. It is a great place for both tourists and local residents. The restaurant has a partially open kitchen, so you can see how real Croatian chefs work. On the tables are paper covers with marine patterns, which are very practical and aesthetic. The restaurant is very popular and you often have to wait in line, but it’s worth it. At the end of my stay, the service treated me to a free beer and coffee as a farewell. It was a very nice gesture and showed that they have class. I recommend Kamenice to anyone who wants to eat something good and inexpensive in the center of...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant today as a group, and were genuinely looking forward to a pleasant meal together. Unfortunately, the experience left us deeply disappointed.
Upon arriving, I approached the hostess very politely and asked if we could be seated. Her response was curt and dismissive — she told me outright that our group was “too big” and that we would need to leave. Surprised, I asked whether we could perhaps split into smaller tables, and only then did she say, somewhat reluctantly, that we “must split” and sit separately.
What struck me most was how unwelcoming and discourteous the entire interaction felt. At no point were we made to feel like valued guests, nor was the option of splitting offered proactively — it felt more like an afterthought once we pressed the issue.
As a group, we felt so unwelcome by the tone and attitude we encountered that we chose to leave rather than stay somewhere where our presence seemed to be an inconvenience.
I sincerely hope the management will reflect on this experience and consider improving their approach to hospitality. A little warmth and willingness to accommodate — especially when a group asks respectfully — go a long way. We will unfortunately not...
