This place showed a problem common to places with an amazing attraction - in this case, the amazing view of the Adriatic - which is they get entitled to treating customers poorly. Picture this: peak summer in Croatia, blazing sun, scorching heat, and we were sitting full in the sun, absolutely melting. My wife rock climbs to the bar to order our drinks and the bartender smirks and says something in croatian to the waiter, who grins. She asks again “can I order here?” He smugly says “since you can’t wait, yes” “Come again?” He doubles down “since you cannot wait, you can order here”
My dude. It is A THOUSAND degrees and we’re sitting in the sun for the last 10 minutes, during which time we had to borrow a menu from the table down below because there wasn’t a whiff of a waiter. You, on the other hand, are in the shade, likely drinking your bosses’ liquor. We understand the different speed in European summer service, but unless you’re willing to fan us while we wait, our patience will be running thin, yes.
Naturally she told him off and we’re spending our hard earned euros at La Bodega, where Tibor, the waiter, was incredibly nice.
Again, I understand a place with a view as gorgeous as this one will not be affected by having an unruly employee. But it’s a shame. This review likely won’t change anyone’s mind about going, but if you’re reading this, at least be warned that you are vulnerable to...
Read moreThis bar is an absolute must visit if you are in Dubrovnik. Located on the rocky cliff side immediately next to and, backing on to the historic walls of the Old Town.
The bar is accessed through a small and very discreet opening in the stone wall which leads you on to an open air multi levelled bar and seating area. The access is via some quite steep steps and albeit it is very safe, the general areas are naturally rocky and a little out of level in places so steady as you go!!!!
This place is Uber chilled with background music and great views over the Adriatic and the Island of Lockrum. Due to its South West position, this bar also offers an excellent place to watch the sunset. There is also the opportunity to cliff dive and swim in the sea should this take your fancy.
As night time descends, superb lighting takes effect and makes this a fantastic place to spend the evening until the late hours.
A great range of drinks, sensible prices and most importantly they also take card payments unlike some cash only bars which I find rather annoying.
All in all, a fantastic place with a great vibe and equally great staff. Point to note….. there are no toilets.

Read moreThe views at this bar are second to none. Of all the places that I have ever drank a drink (so far) this easily has the most beautiful scenery to enjoy them with. It’s a cliff side bar, so you get to sit on the rocks just above the sea, with the waves lapping up beneath you - close enough to hear but not so close you’ll get sprayed. There’s a perfect view of the island (that’s an uninhabited nature reserve) and behind you is the castle walls of the old town of Dubrovnik itself.
The only reason I can’t give this place a full five stars is because the drinks we got were rather expensive: around £11 (196 HRK) each per cocktail! But to be honest the prices do feel justified because of the picturesque environment.
They also have pleasing colour changing lights that shine on the castle walls behind you as you drink once the sun has gone down; and if you’re lucky you can spot a bat flying far above you very occasionally.
I do strongly recommend this place but don’t get drunk here unless you have deep pockets, and bring...
