While in Dubrovnik, during a mid day stroll scoping out bistros for dinner, we stopped to look at the menu at Bura, located in a small quiet square off the beaten path. A sign said “20% off local food and drinks.” This was being offered because the restaurant is only in its second year and it was off/season (April). The menu looked very appetizing and we struck up a conversation with the very sociable hostess. We returned the next night for dinner. It was on the cool side but the staff was so attentive, they brought an extra propane torchere next to our table, and there were lap blankets over the backs of our chairs, so were were kept comfy and cozy during dinner.
Our waitress, Despina was so friendly and helpful, patiently explaining the mouth watering choices on the menu. We opted for the burrata salad, and a beef sirloin bruschetta for starters, and my husband and I shared the lamb gnocchi for our main. The burrata salad, large enough to share, was excellent, the fresh soft buratta surrounded by diced cherry tomatoes and tender baby lettuce both drizzled with herbs and a thin coat of olive oil. The sirloin bruschetta was out of this world, with thinly sliced beef carpaccio topping a bed of lettuce and tomato set on a thick piece of toasted bread. This was also large enough to split and share, and share we did.
The tender shredded lamb was in a dark brown gravy topped with crème freche and sweet red onion, tossed with home made gnocchi, pillow soft and al dente. Every bite was delicious.
The service throughout was excellent. Our waitress Despina saw to our every need, attentive without hovering.
We enjoyed this meal so much, we went back the next night, ordered the other burrata salad (this one was breaded, battered and deep fried making the burrata soft and runny, topped with a pistachio sauce, and and surrounded by lightly dressed baby lettuce and sun dried tomatoes). We shared the shrimp foam bruschetta, really a light creamy shrimp paste, mixed with lettuce. Over the toasted bread It was delicious without being salty. The lamb gnocchi was so good the night before, we got it again. It was equally delicious the second time.
Even if we hadn’t been getting 20% off, we still would have felt we got great value for what we paid, which was reasonable to start. We would happily return there to try the other imaginative and tasty sounding dishes.
Our waitress, Despina, saw to it that we enjoyed our meal, chatted with us a bit to make us feel like guests in her home, and making sure the other staff kept us well stocked with water and that our courses came in the proper timing. We never felt rushed nor did we have to wait to get the attention of the staff. It was a...
Read moreNice place, on an amazing spot. The patio is really relaxing and tabels are not too close one to another. Presentation amazing. Service is ok, relaxed and servers are communicative and willing to answer question. Food is not the stronger side of the restaurant. We ate a black bun burger ( would rate it 2,because the bun was dry, and meat overcooked and salads inside with the sauce were not enough for such and oversized bun. On top of not having a good flavour, it was impossible to eat beacuse it was just too big). We also ordered chicken in a sauce of Jack Daniels i think ( 5, they were super amazing, with a sauce that tasted like heaven. Must try) We have tried deep fried clams (5 as well. Super tasty if you like deep fried food. Super oportunity to try clams prepared like that). My wery good friends were here for dinner and have said that food is not that good, but the chiken is amazing so you must go. So we basically came solely for that and it didn't disappoint. We didn't have any cocktails, but i've heard they are tasty, the ingridients certanly look interesting on the menu. This is my personal favorite square with 4 or 5 different bars/restaurants if we talk about places where to experience a nice...
Read moreI had the most wholesome experience at this place! I was here around April 2024 but even as life got in the way, I wanted to make sure I don't end this year without writing my honest review of this gem.
My friends and I were clueless on where we wanted to eat and chill at the same time. Brigita who was the hostess did a remarkable job in warmly welcoming us and giving her undivided attention, not just towards us, but seamlessly with all the customers without compromising on the quality of the service. She is undoubtedly the whole package when it comes to customer service and I was certainly left with a warmth not just by the food and drinks but the genuine hospitality of this place.
A very special mention to Despina who was on fire! Her amicable personality and professionalism clearly shows how much she cares about the work and the customers. We were served some knock out cocktails which really was one of the highlights for us that evening.
Oh and not to forget, we visited this place 2 to 3 times during our short stay. Thank you Bura bistro for this...
