I’ve been so excited to write this review. I can hands down say that I had one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten here at Taj Mahal in Old Town Dubrovnik. We decided to only eat dinner out once in Dubrovnik, restaurants are pretty pricey there. I’m so glad that this place was recommended to us and even happier it’s the one we chose. The Taj Mahal serves traditional Bosnian cuisine. It’s located in a little alleyway less than a three minute walk from Pile Gate. To say it’s anything less than magical would be a lie. From the music playing to the dimly lit street. The ambiance is just quaint and hopelessly romantic. The staff there were incredibly friendly and helpful as well. Because it was the only dinner we were going to eat out we decided to order the BOSNIA MEZE to start. It was a dish with cured meats and sausages, japrak (minced meat wrapped in rastika leaf) with rice and mint and peppers filled with kajmak (similar to cream cheese). It was melt in your mouth meat , it was delicious. For dinner, Trevor had the CEVAPI - a traditional grilled dish of minced meat sausages, served in a warm flatbread with cream cheese and onions on the side. He’d had this dish back in Canada but it obviously didn’t even come close to here in Dubrovnik. I had the SWEET CEVAP - slow cooked veal with prunes, dried fig, raisins, apple, and rice. I can honestly say that this is the best meal I have ever had in my life. Trevor said “no way, I’ll ask you that in 3 months if you feel the same and you won’t even remember”. I stand my by statement- best meal I’ve ever had. The meat was so juicy and the sauce was just to die for. It was sweet, mouth-watering and just incredible. I won’t rant, but if you’re at Taj Majal I would definitely suggest this dish. Overall, an amazing experience from beginning to end. I can still taste the meal as I look through the photos. I would go back there 100% and have the same thing every day if I could. Go to @the.bourques.abroad on instagram to follow our travels and for more reviews!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Taj Mahal, an exceptional Bosnian restaurant nestled on a quaint side street in Dubrovnik's old town. During our four-day visit to the city, my wife, a self-proclaimed food enthusiast, chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. To avoid any delays, we made a reservation in advance, which proved to be a wise decision. Upon our arrival, we noticed a substantial queue of people eagerly waiting for a table. Considering the bustling atmosphere, especially during the peak tourist months of July and August, I highly recommend booking ahead of time. As for the food, we started our meal with the Burek Cigar, a delightful appetizer that set the tone for the evening. For the main course, we opted for a 7-piece serving of Ćevapi, succulent grilled mincemeat nestled in a fluffy flatbread accompanied by kajmak and onion. Additionally, we opted for the Šopska salad, composed of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and tangy feta cheese. To complete our order, we shared a Lamb Shish. To complement the warm summer evening, we indulged in a delightful cherry liqueur. The portion sizes were generous, satisfying our appetites perfectly, and the flavors were simply exquisite. Despite the staff's evident busyness, they consistently ensured our needs were met. Observing the dishes ordered by some of our fellow diners made me wish I had an additional stomach to enjoy even more of the tempting menu options. Given the outstanding experience we had, I would undoubtedly return to The Taj Mahal to sample more of their great menu if I have the opportunity to visit this city again. They may only have one Michelin star but they get five stars from me!

I had dinner here with my familiy yesterday but I cannot say I had a very nice time. The food overall was pretty good although the prices are way too high in my book. Spend 690 kn for 3 people so that is high above average of the places we eat and we went to other Michelin recommended restaurants. Anyway, the price is not the main issue here but the service which was very poor, beside waiting for more the one hour to get our order without any information about the delay, we waited some time also to get the check but the worst part of all is the way it was handled, the waiter just stood there for me to pay the cash which I found if very odd and not at all customer friendly (even rude) but that's not the worst part, he took the bill with the money before I even got a chance to check it out which is something I never seen it done before, you cannot just take the bill from your customers, it just looked like you are hiding something maybe added extra in the bill. I know it's not the case as I checked the total price but the way it was handled I just found it rude and innapropriete for a Michelin recommended restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter. For sure, after my experience I think it's a mistake to have this restaurant with such service included in the Michelin guide, service needs some serious inprovement, if you demand high prices, service should be at the same level. On a positive side, Bosnian Meatballs (140 kn) were very good, I can definitely recommend it. Sweet cevap (180 kn) was also pretty interesting to try, definitely some nice flavours and the meat was soft and tender, although the rice was undercooked and had no taste at all.

Authentic Bosnian cuisine! Don't get fooled by the name - we are not recommending an Indian restaurant, but an authentic Bosnian one. Although the name can be a little confusing. Taj Mahal is located in the old town in one of the beautiful alleys and can be easily overlooked as other restaurants and a pizzeria is located in the same alley. Bosnian cuisine makes use of many spices in moderate quantities. Dishes are often boiled and flavored with sauces made from the natural juices of vegetables. And it is among the ones not really for vegetarians or vegans as it is full of meat. We went toTaj Mahal for lunch and thank the gods we did, cause we digested the food for a few hours. So when planning your visit keep in mind your digestion. However, if you plan a night out, then it is perfect. Wanting to try as much from the menu as possible, we ordered the “Ghingis Kan” Plate. It is a plate for two, with all different kinds of meat (čevapi, chicken kebab, pljeskavica, sudukica, rump steak, chicken). And as mentioned, prepare for a lot of meat. If you ask us, it was for more than two people. All was prepared on the grill and tasted amazing. The flavoring was great and we enjoyed each bite. We barely finished it, but didn’t want to leave behind anything. The service was nice and the waitress also recommended us a few dishes and also the one we ordered. The taste great, and it is among our top three recommendations.

My recent visit to Taj Mahal in Dubrovnik was a pleasant experience overall, and I’d rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The service stood out right away—the waiters were incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Their attentiveness and warm demeanor added a nice touch to the evening. The food was good, with well-prepared dishes that hit the spot. While the flavors were enjoyable, I wouldn't say anything particularly stood out as exceptional. It was a satisfying meal, but it lacked that extra something to make it memorable. One thing I did notice was that the portion sizes were on the smaller side. While everything tasted good, I left wishing there had been just a bit more on my plate. As for pricing, it was similar to what I’m used to paying in my home country, which seems to be the standard in Dubrovnik these days. Although it might be considered expensive compared to many other European countries, it’s in line with what you’d expect in this beautiful city. In summary, Taj Mahal is a good choice if you’re looking for friendly service and decent food in Dubrovnik. While the portions could be a bit more generous and the dishes didn’t particularly wow me, it’s a reliable spot for a nice meal. A respectable 4 out of 5 stars!
