Christmas Eve and disappointment
After reading so many good comments on this place we decided to make a reservation to celebrate Christmas Eve there. As planned the deco is stunning and the tables incredibles. The waiter gave us the normal menu and we ordered two vegetables soup (4 cuc each) and the special of the day which was a cerdo asado (no price indicated but all dishes were between 15-20 cuc for a piece of meat). We also ordered a bottle of Chilean wine which was exquisite for 32 cuc. Everything was fine but nothing exceptional in terms of savors (we are in Cuba after all) We went there for the place not for the food so we were having a good time! Arrived the bill... 132 CUC! What!!! Two “menu” at 50 CUC which were never presented to us plus the bottle of wine. I asked the waitress to explain the bill because in Europe I would agree to pay such a price for Christmas but with shrimp, foie gras and other loads of fine dishes but 50 euros for a soup and a piece of porc was completely exaggerated and especially without ever being noticed of such imaginary “menu” where your ordered whatever from the everyday menu... After complaining and telling the. that we wouldn’t pay this price for this quality of food they bought us the “normal” check .. 2 soups at 4 cuc, 2 cerdo asado at 20 cuc and the bottle of wine. A total of 80 CUC and not 132 CUC. They apologized and offered us to drink a cocktail which never arrived at the table but anyway, be careful, check the bill and the end and don’t get fooled by some nonsense explanation. According to them the price was motivated by the band, the porcelains and the fact that we could dance... which is, if you read more comments, the speciality of this restaurant!!!!!!!!! Incredible. Merry...
Read moreMust see of Trinidad! I've spend one of the best nights of my live in this restaurant. Very neat facility with a lot of lovely details. They have sort of a observatory in the back with a great view over the entire city, especially at sunset.
But the best thing about this restaurant are it's employees! At first there was a salsa couple that was showcasing their skills to the sound of an awesome traditional live-band. Once they've finished, they asked us to dance and all of a sudden the whole place danced, even the waiters and waitresses. One of them even joined the band to sing along with one of the best voices I've ever heard! It was such a warm atmosphere and I wished this night would never end.
I totally recommend this place, if you are looking for a great time...
Read moreYou definitely need to have dinner here while in Trinidad, because exceptional food is rare here (the food is merely correct at 1514) but at least you'll be in one of the city's most beautiful setting. The service is really good, the staff pleasant, but sometimes the band(s) playing at night are really too loud & disruptive. Make a reservation for the main dining room rather than the back garden. When you have a minute between courses, go take a peek at the kitchen, you'll be amazed by it. EDIT Jan 2018: the food got better, and the bands aren't as loud anymore. It is definitely my favorite place in Trinidad. It is expensive once you order lobster etc, count about 30CUC per person for a great experience. I upgraded from...
