Venari TAVERNA Xaris — Restaurant in Larnaca

A traditional tavern in the middle of Larnaca. A must visit for many reasons, tasty food (not heavy for the stomach), quick service, friendly staff and BIG portions. Also really nice decoration, visited on Summer and because of the many fans and the trees surrounding it was not hot and humid as in the rest of Larnaca. The 3 of us ordered mezedes and I have ordered pitta with halloumi and mushrooms. I wanted to order also the fried mushrooms & aragula but the daughter of Mr. Charis mentioned that it is already included in the 3 mezedes and that she will bring more (instead of charging me extra)!!! I have visited a few tavernas in Cyprus and I got to take my hat off for this place, as it was one of the best places I have visited for meat meze. We had so many dishes that by half way we were full. Every dish was as it should be tasty and full of flavour and cooked very well. At the end we had a plate of seasonal fresh fruit and a traditional crepe with ice-cream. The service was attentive and staff very knowledgeable and I will definitely be returning here as I know it will not disappointed me. As Cypriots, even though we live abroad, we love good quality food and plenty of it!

Hence, having visited Venari last night, I would highly recommend it. It’s probably one of the best Meze, together with Ayia Anna, we have ever had. If you want the authentic Cypriot Taverna, rather than the ‘tourist’ versions do visit.

The range of dishes, quality and authentic Cypriot food available is excellent. For the experience, do also try the sheep’s head at the end of the Meze. Some really wonderful textures and tastes to be had.
