"This dish is very nice," - a sentence used by the host to describe every single dish. He wasn't wrong.
Going to Oulla Halali felt like getting my taste buds waterboarded with liquid gold, leaving me in a state of utter euphoric confusion. I never wanted it to end.
Before I even mention the food, I need to talk about our host, a wonderful and happy man, the husband of the owner (the wife owns the place), who welcomed us warmly. He excitedly explained the menu to us and described every single dish as "the best, you've never eaten something like this before." This guy has more passion than a Shakespearean love sonnet and gets you hyped for the food like you're about to watch bloody Van Helen perform runnin, with the devil.
Now, onto the food: It was definitely good. You can taste the "homemadedness" in every dish. Extremely fresh-tasting and enjoyable. A couple of my friends and I ordered the Meze menu, which was like getting a VIP pass to flavor town. Small portions of almost everything on the menu, and definitely the most bang for your buck item on the menu. We were presented with this gracious parade of dishes displaying harmonies of flavors I've probably never experienced in this specific combination. The variety was top-notch, and the €1 pita bread? Just amazing.
Now it wouldn't be a good review without some constructive criticism: The fries, as fresh as they were, did lack a bit of crunch. A good French fry needs that satisfying crunch, at least to some degree. Perhaps double frying the potatoes could help? Additionally, for the Meze menu, the protein dishes should maybe be more spread out among the vegetable dishes. As not to serve kebabs right after a porkchop.
I most definitely enjoyed the restaurant and recommend everyone give the place a shot. You'll be...
Read moreThis place is a must if you’re in Cyprus! I only had 4 days in Paphos and came here for dinner twice because it was so amazing! The food is absolutely divine - you have to go for a classic meze if you are here. A set menu for a very reasonable prices and each dish that came out was absolutely amazing! Portion sizes are big and you are sure to leave extremely full! While this restaurant is worth visiting for the food alone, the service and atmosphere is what makes this place above and beyond. This is a family and female owned restaurant. The chef is so kind and cooks amazing, her daughter is an excellent and attentive server, and her husband Andreas is the star of the show. This family will make you feel at home, tell you stories, sit and share a drink with you, play music, and dance. You will never be rushed here and they encourage you to enjoy the food, enjoy the company, stay as long as you want. As someone who made the long journey from Canada to Cyprus I can confidently say this is the best restaurant in Cyprus. If you go, please give Andreas a...
Read moreThis place is an absolute gem, we had read the reviews and had to try for ourselves. We were not disappointed! On arrival we had such a warm welcome from Andreas and his daughter and this really set the tone for the evening. We decided to go for the meze and so glad that we did. My husband does not eat mushrooms ( he continues to try them) but actually ate the whole portion here....and enjoyed them! The zucchini is incredible and sheftalia some of the best we have tasted. Andreas was such an amazing host and his daughter, very attentive, we were made to feel like old friends. It was great to meet Karen, the chef, at the end of our evening, her food was simply great. We look forward to seeing you all soon.....I'm not so sure we will be child...
