No offense to our friends from across the pond, but Brits/Cypriot Brits have no business making Mexican food. I say this as an American who has traveled to Mexico, had authentic Mexican cuisine, TexMex, CaliMex, and have eaten at numerous Latin American restaurants across the East Coast of the US.
To start, our chips and queso came out and we were immediately unimpressed. The consistency was that of jello, the color looked like radioactive cheddar, and tasted like spicy cheese wiz.
For our main course, we ordered the beef burrito and chicken tacos. I asked for my burrito to be smothered in cheese sauce like their fried burrito showed on their menu. I expected a white sauce, but was unpleasantly surprised with more yellow spicy cheese wiz. This place has an affinity for yellow food because the "Mexican rice" in my burrito was also yellow. The Guacamole was prepackaged and not fresh. Jalapeños were pickled. The beef was just ground beef that was poorly seasoned. The portion sizes were not small, but not large. I did not leave hungry but I also did not leave stuffed.
The chicken tacos looked as though the chicken was frozen from a bag. This main meal was also poorly seasoned, and came out as build your own taco with all the toppings on the side instead of on the tacos. The salsa was from a jar and most definitely not fresh.
To pass this as authentic should be a crime. I would recommend going to the mall to get Taco Bell if you're looking for more authentic Mexican food. You will also spend 1/3 the price.
Chicken tacos, beef burrito, chips & "queso," a session IPA, and a latte cost ~€45. We were one of two people at the restaurant and it took nearly 45 minutes to 1 hour to receive our meals.
The only thing this place had going for it was it's calm atmosphere, friendly service, and the IPA was good. The music, however, consistent of contemporary jazz including Michael Bubble and Nora Jones. Not really congruent with the Latin theme.
All-in-all I would recommend you go else where for lunch. I did not have high hopes for this place as Cyprus is nowhere near Mexico, but I was still...
Read morewent in around 5pm, alone in the restaurant the service was quite good and atmosphere is not bad, my main issue was the price and the taste of the food, took around 15 minutes to get the food, for 2 quesos it was around 35 euro (I asked the waitress for the beer together with the food, when the food came I was waiting for over 5 minutes to get the beer which wasn't ideal considering the place was empty) and for the price the food was nothing special but it wasn't bad just tasted like minced beef I cook at home the cheese wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting , quantity was fine if the price was half but for the price I paid I was expecting more what I found outrageous was 5 euro for a portion of fried potatoes which was around 2 medium sized potatoes sliced roughly, the flavor was quite flat, no special seasoning with some fast food singular portions of ketchup and mayo. I also had a local craft beer which was fine, looking at other reviews maybe I just tried...
Read moreHey, well tonight was a night to do a review for food here. Arriving at 5pm the owners put the TV on so I could watch my football team playing in the UK. I sat down with a lovely well poured glass of Benediktiner beer and enjoyed full coveridge of the game. Feeling a little hungry after a few pints I ordered a Burger with bacon and cheese with chips. I was taking a chance as it seems an age since I've had a good burger. I need not have worried this prepared by Fiona half of the fantastic couple that own Sierra was superb. I have not enjoyed a burger for quite a while and would recommend it to anyone who likes good meat with no gristle. The guys here are lovely and deserve to be a part of the Old Town Pafos. Give them a try they work so hard to...
