TAPERIX Cyprus tavern — Restaurant in Paphos Municipality

Very disappointing!

My parents who have visited this restaurant on a few occasions booked a table in person on my behalf for my family of 3 (2 adults and a 7 year old child) to attend in August 24. The booking was made approximately 4 weeks prior to the date of attending. On arrival we were greeted by 2 female waitresses who advised that they had no record of our booking. We were ok with this because they said there was plenty of space and asked if we could come back a little later when they were fully open around 7:30pm. I asked if we could have a nice table in the garden area and they said this would be fine. On arrival we were taken towards the garden area by one of the female waitresses, a man from behind the bar joined them who I can only assume was the owner, he took a look up and down of my husband and I and walked us back towards a table which was outside of the garden area in a sort of walkway between the inside area and the garden. This was confusing for me as the garden was virtually empty. I asked if we could sit in the garden as we had booked over a month ago and he started sarcastically tapping his head saying he didn't understand the relevance of that. He insisted there wasn't any tables for 3 in the garden albeit there was tables for 4 and then said we needed to sit at this other table which was also set up for 4? He then stormed off when I politely declined the table he offered. I had a bad feeling about this, he was extremely rude without cause and having read some of the reviews post incident I suspect he took a dislike to us based on our physical presentation. It's sad to say having been a visitor to Cyprus for over 22 years and never having experienced something like this previously.

When visiting restaurants there's a couple of things that I look out for which I think are pretty normal:

Ambience which includes the location of the table and our surroundings service, friendly and welcoming good food.

Sadly the owner didn't see the relevance of my first two points and left us feeling saddened and confused.

I'm not one to leave a bad review but I don't feel that there's any other way of addressing this.

If you are looking forward to a traditional Cypriot meal I cannot comment on the food as we didn't get that far but there are far more welcoming restaurants in the area.

I note some tourists have given it rave reviews and my parents are also tourists and not experienced this but the random rudeness is probably not worth the hassle! I would recommend you try elsewhere as I wouldn't want you to think this...

Disappointing Experience

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of awful. My wife made a booking well in advance, but when we arrived, the owner seemed completely unaware of it. Instead of apologising, I was met with rude and dismissive behaviour, as if it was our fault for their mistake.

The level of customer service was shocking. The owner not only failed to acknowledge their error but treated me with complete disrespect. I was left waiting for an unreasonable amount of time with no proper communication or concern for my reservation.

A restaurant’s atmosphere is as important as the food, and when the owner himself displays such unprofessional behavior, it leaves a sour taste that no dish could make up for. I won’t be coming back, and I certainly can’t recommend this place to anyone looking for...

Such a rude man at the entrance. We arrived at 7 PM, which is what the opening time says on Google Maps. He didn’t even greet us and just said, “What are you doing here?” We replied, “To eat, of course. Can we take a seat?” He got really angry and started shouting that they’re closed and only open at 7:30 PM, which isn’t mentioned anywhere online.

We said okay and asked if we could sit down, and he started making these weird mannerisms like he’d been hospitable before, as if we’d done something wrong by simply asking to sit. Then he told us we couldn’t sit in the garden, only inside.

It made us feel so unwelcome and disrespected, especially coming from an older man with no basic respect for two young girls. Please spend your money elsewhere. Old Town is just a 5...
