After being to this restaurant and leaving with a bad impression, I decided to see if TripAdvisor reflected that. To my surprise I saw so many good reviews that in my opinion don't reflect the truth. I don't know if it was a one time thing or if they don't care about local tourists but the food was not that good.
We went as a group with friends for launch and ordered souvlaki and mixed grilled dishes. The prices were relatively high for the amount of food on the plate. The quality of the food was below average, especially for the price and the salad tasted off.
The only good thing was the fresh fries that came with the meal. Also, the price of the beers available was pretty low and would make this place a good option for watching a match (there are many TVs available). The beer collection is also relatively large.
Overall I would not visit this place again, especially for food and would not recommend it to anyone. There are much better options nearby that are...
Read moreAfter living in Cyprus for four years and trying many taverns, I have to say Kafkaros unfortunately ranks at the bottom of our list. The grilled meat meze was not only lacking in authenticity and classic Cypriot flavor, but it also came at a higher price point than many other places we’ve visited. Both the pork and chicken souvlaki were disappointingly small, and the sheftalia were burnt and barely larger than my index finger in diameter. When the keftedes (meatballs) arrived, they were not only burnt on the outside but still raw inside, as shown in my photo.
It felt like every corner was being cut to save money at the customer’s expense, from the portion sizes to the quality of preparation. Overall, the food lacked the quality and authenticity we expect from a Cypriot tavern. It also seemed the chef may not have been familiar with traditional Cypriot or Greek cuisine, which could explain the disappointing experience. For the price, we expected...
Read moreJust had a memory jogger. Friends are in Protaras at the moment and I thought about Kafkaros. It was way back in 94. Dave from Billericky worked there. We were given a ticket from a guest in the hotel we were staying in ( papantonia) for a free Karaf of wine at Kafkaros. So we went. Beautiful meal great atmosphere. Got another ticket for a free wine. Complimentary drinks after our meal. What ever we wanted. On our last night I asked David if they could bottle some of the wine to take home. The wine was in a barrel. He managed to keep over filling the bottles so the cork wouldn’t fit. So there was a lot of wine glasses on the table to be drunk. When he eventually got the 3 bottles corked I gave Dave a £20 Cypriot note which he brought back and said Kafkaros said they were on the house. Is it still run by the...
