Αστροφεγγιά Ταβέρνα — Restaurant in Peyia

This was the restaurant with the best atmosphere that I visited while on Cyprus. The mismatched tables and chairs, in the courtyard, the beautiful trees, the lightning, everything looked cozy and nice, and I was ready for a great meal. However, I was quite dissapointed. The waiter was friendly enough, but the food.... I had moussaka that came in a tinfoil bowl. I figured they pre-make it, freeze it, and then bake it when needed, and that would be fine with me. But it just didn't taste good. There was some meat in it that gave it flavour, but the bechamel wasn't very flavourful, the eggplant was basically plain, and the whole thing was just dissapointing. The village salad wasn't even mixed and all the dressing was concentrated on the bottom, I don't think it even had feta cheese. At least the produce itself was good. One of us had livers that were drowned in oil, in fact none of us were completely satisfied with our dishes. It wasn't the worst experience I had, but not nearly as good as I hoped...

Don't understand bad reviews about this place! We've been here twice and left absolutely delighted with the food. Kebab is massive, lots of fresh salad and juicy meat inside are covered by super tasty fried pita bread. You can ask to add sauce, or make mix meat for diversity. They serve all food with two nice plates of local olives and chilly peppers. The waitress is highly hospitable, attentive to every question, speaks English, Greek and Russian freely. The second time we also ordered musaka, which I believe is worth michelin star 🌟 Many locals pop in here. P.S. We had a wonderful experience at Αστροφεγγιά Ταβέρνα! We ordered two Cypriot-style meze dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care.

The staff were incredibly friendly, warm, and had a great sense of humor. They made us feel truly welcome from the moment we arrived. It felt less like eating out and more like visiting friends.

The atmosphere was also perfect: cozy, charming, and inviting — a place where you can really relax and enjoy good food and good company.
