A disappointment I wasn’t ready for...
After eyeing this restaurant for months, we decided to go there for our anniversary dinner — the reviews and presentation looked very convincing.
We ordered the 7-course menu, but it didn’t match what was listed on the website, which was the first surprise.
Appetizers were a selection of cold cuts, pickled vegetables, and burrata with a spinach quiche. The flavors were fine but quite basic — nothing particularly exciting.
The pasta with mushrooms was excellent and honestly the highlight of the evening and sole reason why i am not giving only 1 star.
The main course, however, was very disappointing. It consisted of three thin slices of vitello that looked uneven and clearly different cuts - completly cooked brown and not appetizing. The portion was beyond small for a main dish, and oddly, we were only given a fork to eat it with.
The dessert (panna cotta) tasted okay but was extremely small for the 95 DKK price they normally charge for it.
We also ordered beer for 85 DKK, which was served in a wine glass and looked like barely 30 cl — a strange choice of presentation and ridiculous price.
The service was the weakest part. The staff seemed disorganized and casual in both appearance and approach dressed like going for coffee date with friend not serving food for 600dkk. At one point, waiters were rushing between tables, apologizing repeatedly. Throughout the dinner, we were never asked how the food was until the very end, after the dessert. and only about the dessert.
Overall, this experience didn’t live up to the restaurant’s image or...
Read moreA piece of advice from Italians: dine at Caronte because it's worth it.
Caronte isn't your typical Italian restaurant; the dishes offered will surprise you! This restaurant in Carlsberg, in the city of Copenhagen, offers the typical flavors of northern Italy (where Venice is located), while typically Italian restaurants abroad offer dishes from the south. My partner and I are from Venice, and I assure you that every bite reminded us of home. The chef has managed to ferry us from the traditional dishes of our land to exquisite reinterpretations, just as Charon ferries his souls to another world.
We really appreciated the flavors and textures of the dishes, rounded and balanced but not without pleasant sensory surprises. If you're looking for pasta, you'll find it here in a truly exquisite northern Italian variant. But it would be a shame to stop at pasta! Even the appetizers, second courses and desserts, (delicious) tell stories of the simple life of the countryside but also of lively Venetian salons or walks in the Dolomites woods.

Read moreWe tried the 5-course tasting menu at Caronte. We had high hopes for this place since it was advertised at sister restaurant to Ruffino Osteria in Christianshavn, but maybe that’s why we got a bit disappointed with the hype. . Since we got tipster coupons, we were a bit wondering whether the restaurant made their own tipster menu for us, since it looked absolutely different than those advertised in their website. . The zucchini appetizer felt flat while the pork one was better. The primi with pasta with guanciale was perfect 👌 (for who could say no to guanciale, right?) while the secondi was okay although it was rather boring. The dessert was equally meh for my taste. The Georgian orange wine that we chose was good though. The service that day was also rather meh, so I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars unfortunately. The only consolation was the bread that was so good and juicy that was apparently counted on as one of the serving in the 5-course "tipster"...
