A Former Favorite That Has Lost Its Way
We used to be regular visitors to Beyla, drawn by what was a winning combination of excellent vegan cuisine and genuinely friendly staff. We returned recently after an absence, and this visit unfortunately reminded us why we had stopped coming.
The quality of the food itself remains a clear strength; the vegan dishes are creative and well-prepared. However, the overall dining experience has deteriorated significantly. The primary issue is the service and atmosphere. The server's friendliness bordered on overly casual and informal, which felt unfitting and almost dismissive. This is particularly jarring in the Danish context, where a certain professional reserve is the norm.
An even greater problem was the noise level. The staff made what they described to us as a "spontaneous decision" to replace the usually relaxed soundtrack with a collection of loud classic rock. Trying to hold a conversation, especially about personal matters, while a Guns N' Roses guitar solo plays at full volume is simply not a pleasant experience. When you combine the jarring atmosphere with food portions that now seem too small, it unfortunately overshadows the skill coming from the kitchen.

Read moreWe had a great night out. Ordered the 6 dish tasting course and threw in a slider (burger) for each of us, which I must say completed the palette. One of us had the 4 glass wine pairing, and the other 4 glass alcohol-free pairing - here they served kombucha and kefir instead.
The food was high quality servings, well spiced, that we really had a great time enjoying. By the end our appetite was perfectly satisfied because of wide range of flavours and textures we'd been through, which is a feat. Full yet not feeling too full because of the vegan ingredients (and I am happy to say the amount of oils felt low) so we had a breeze walking the 40 minute distance home afterwards, which can otherwise sometimes be a struggle with a full and heavy belly.
The wine and alcohol-free pairing were good. We were especially fond of the alcohol-free glass for the 2nd serving which was a kefir - just wow. Incredible taste, an absolute favorite. The first kombucha was also good but we didn't find it matching with the first course, where the cava came through better. The red wine and the corresponding imitation were good. If anything, I felt the imitation was lacking in the aftertaste, but otherwise fine, and impressive on the nose. Of the 7 courses, we especially enjoyed the first one Carrot, the signature BFM, the Gnocchi (wow the texture!), and the Slider. None of the servings were subpar, but these 4 stood out the most for us.
Really liked the staff attitude and energy. Will...
Read moreWe came to Beyla in early September as it was just a short walk from where we were staying; a little tucked away, which made it even more fun to find! We loved the gorgeous space inside- It is cosy, bright, and happy and there’s even a speakeasy- tyle toilet that you have to check out!
The menu is completely plant based and designed to share. You can go for the Beyla tasting menu for 399 DKK (around $94–95 AUD), or choose à la carte like we did. They also offer lovely wine pairings and a great selection of natural wines by the glass. The staff were warm, friendly, and guided us through what dishes were popular.
Everything we ate was so fresh, colourful, and delicious. Some of our highlights were the Beyla Fried Mushrooms, Bourbon and Smoked Cheese Slider, Risotto of the day, and if they have them in season, the tomatoes!
Beyla is part of The Ark Collection, created by a group of passionate people who also run Restaurant Ark and Bistro Lupa. Their goal is to show how exciting and satisfying plant based food can be ; not as a trend, but as a way to eat that’s thoughtful, sustainable, and full of creativity. They even work closely with Denmark’s only organic urban mushroom farm, which they co-own, to source incredible produce. You can really taste the care that goes into each dish.
I highly recommend visiting Beyla when you’re in Copenhagen — especially if you love beautiful, vibrant plant based food and friendly service in a space that just makes...
