Sydhavns VinBar “The House of Lars” - Køpenhavn, May 2022

We simply have found the best wine bar of the whole Scandinavia ! Don’t look anywhere else, it’s here.

Founded during the pandemic, through therefore suffering starts, it’s our friend Lars, already an importer of wines for many years, that has finally realised his dream of a great wine bar in Køpenhavn!

The place is very nice, located in a quiet neighbourhood and split in three levels, a vast basement of five rooms all made of wood and different types of seating, a ground floor with one table and some standing spaces and a little room above, close to the kitchen. Everything is decorated in a funny and smart way and there are just bottles EVERYWHERE !!!

The wine list is just amazing. A total of 18 pages of great choices, wide choice of natural wines, pet’nat’s, and also more classical crus. The master of the house also serves wines by the glass and also great food. The cold cuts were amazing, the rillettes were gorgeous, and we also had little cassolettes of scallops and asparagus (sorry about the photo, we had already eaten most of it when I remembered to shoot it).

All in all a magnificent place, great atmosphere and beautiful wines. THE place to be in KH for...

We came across Sydhavnens Vinbar while exploring the surrounding neighborhood of our hotel. When we arrived, the Vinbar was not open yet, but we were lucky to come across Lars! The Vinbar owner. Even though they were not opened yet, Lars invited us in, gave us a tour (wife is an interior designer so she absolutely loved this part!), and offered us the kind of hospitality you would expect being in someone’s home.

We enjoyed some of the most wonderful wine, truffle popcorn, and great conversation with Lars. Lars brings you back down to earth, a shining example of a good human being, an awesome host, and a stellar example of being the fabric of a community.

His wine collection is awesome. Sourced for quality, sustainability, and fine tastes. He also has a small collection of different beers I didn’t see anywhere else on our trip so that was cool too! The food/snacks are also of high quality with local, international, and unique offerings. Lars added his own design details to every corner of the space and we are excited to visit his new store in the future.

Come for a drink, come for a quick bite, come for great company. You can’t go wrong here!

Well, no wonder old Sydhavn is getting more and more talked up in the press. If places like this new wine bar are the standard, then it really is going to become a hot spot in the next few years. We, (a stressed mum and dad enjoying a rare night out),) loved it. Great looking decor, artful use of space, good food and great wine of course. Lars the owner is knowledgeable and attentive to his customers without being intrusive. You can also see this will be a great spot in winter too....
