TLDR- The family rooms are great if you need to sleep 4, but perhaps a bit too extravagant for just a couple. The extra space is useful as a living room area. The hotel isn’t as usefully located as say the Bella Sky in relation to the airport, nor any useful amenities like a decently sized supermarket. ||As always with my reviews, I’ll split things up into ‘The Good’, the “Not so good’ and ‘the weird’, followed by some practical information if you choose to visit this hotel.||I’ve been here before a few times but the first time staying in one of the larger rooms so I thought I would review it based on that. ||THE GOOD||The staff at check in, check out and at the bar were always friendly and helpful. ||It’s nice having a very large almost suite size of room. ||The windows open in this hotel, both vent and wide. ||The usual moxy under bed sensor lights and low level lights in bathroom guide you to an evening bathroom break without waking everyone up. ||We were gifted a really nice little moxy branded bag at checkin with two cans of Pepsi and two packets of crisps. and the usual moxy cocktails. Added onto the platinum benefit of 10US$ a day to spend in the hotel, per person, and you’ve all set for snacks and drinks which may negate needing to be nearer a supermarket. ||The snack selection at the bar has a really good selection of things.||THE NOT SO GOOD||The hotel sits next to a main road. You can’t hear the traffic at all with the windows closed but you certainly hear it if you want the windows open. But, the A/C appears to be providing outside air ventilation so that’s good. ||As normal in a Moxy no in room tea and coffee making facilities. But there’s hot water downstairs in the social area near the lift plus a good selection of teabags etc.||Duvet was quite thin, and pillows are the standard HotelCo51 Moxy pillows which may or may not be tolerable for you - one too few, two too many etc. ||THE WEIRD||Still the tiny Moxy bathrooms though, I know why they are small (it’s my understanding they’re pre manufactured pods, all standard across the brand to lower cost of build) but you’d think for a family room they’d have a family offering. ||Two TVs in the room, I kinda get it, I also kinda don’t, given that there wasn’t a door separating the two spaces. ||This is what I call Type B Moxy. In that the decor isn’t quite the style of a normal Moxy and is instead a little more boring. Gone is the cage wall with all the useful hooks etc. just a few coat hangers and a couple of wall mounted coat hooks. ||The Moxy signature scent when you walk into the hotel is nice normally, but somehow it’s extra concentrated in this one. Very much a feeling of walking into a department store cosmetics section. If you struggle with scents, best hold your breath in the revolving door and ease your way into it. |||THE PRACTICALS|2 bars of 5g on TDC. Patchy data, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Wifi unsecure, with no portal.||You’re a short 5 min walk from Sydhavn Station. Which is on the S Lines A & E. You’re also an 8 min walk from Mozarts Plats Metro station on the new M4 line. ||To get to/from the airport by public transport you’ll need to use the S Line to Copenhagen H (Central) and the regional train back towards the airport. ||There is a small Netto a short walk away on the other side of Sydhavn station, which at the time of writing closes at 2200. And a 365 Discount halfway to the metro which closes at 2200 too. ||IN SUMMARY |I mean the hotel is fine. It’s a reasonable location in Copenhagen if not a not reasonable location where in Copenhagen it is because of the busy road. If you’re a family, I don’t think you’re gonna get a better family sized room in Copenhagen for this money. But, for a couple perhaps look elsewhere. I would return to the hotel, but probably just to the...
Read more1: The staff is awesome and friendly if you’re friendly. These folks really make an effort if you’re not a rude jerk. The staff is what made the experience decent for me, despite the facilities shortcomings. 2: Super convenient access to the Sydhavn S-Tog Train Station. Easy access to the center of town and nearby areas via this mode of transportation. 3: The staff are extremely busy on most of the days I was there. Pack your patience during peak timeframes. These folks are hard working but at times they are simply overwhelmed and understaffed. 4: Rooms are functional, yet spartan. Internet and TV sucks. Only one channel in english, only youtube internet tv, which is barely functional. Bring your own washcloth if you use one, don’t expect amenities beyond soap and towels.. 5: Fitness center is small and limited but fairly adequate in a pinch. 6: This Moxy hotel chain is clearly geared to the younger crowd (21-30ish). It’s cute and bare bones. 7: There is no real workspace in your room if you’re traveling for business. There is a somewhat comfortable workspace in the lobby although it’s loud and the high level of activity is lacking. Bring noise canceling headphones. 8: Hotel is located within a mostly residential neighborhood. Just about everything you want to do/go to is a short train ride away. Pizza joint and Burger joint right next door. If you want something fancier, take the train to the city center.
This was my first experience at a Moxy. I chose this option as it was a Marriott brand hotel available when there were no rooms in the other 2 Marriott properties in copenhagen.
All and all a decent place for what it is. The lack of quality internet service made working from the hotel frustrating. Youtube functionality on the in-room TV at night was equally frustrating with low resolution, high latency, and is unusable at times. Limited staffing for a at capacity hotel leads to long waits at the bar.
I stayed here for two weeks and casually spoke to most of the staff at this hotel. They really do seem interested in doing the right thing, albeit with their limitations. I can’t overstate their positive impact on my stay.
I would recommend this place if you’re a young traveler, a traveler without young children and one who doesn’t care about convenience and amenities. If you’re a business traveler, consider going elsewhere if you can. If it’s your last option, it’ll get you through.
Leave your Mariott Luxury/Status expectations at home. If you’re not a super uber loyalty member, you won’t care...
Read moreThis was my first Moxy stay. I'm 31, 'professional', Millennial, and seem to be who Moxy is aimed at. I don't get the brand and don't know who would.
This hotel is located quite well, a 30 minute walk from the Meatpacking district, 10 minutes in a (pricey) taxi from the airport, and 3 minutes from the S-tøg train, though at weekends this seems to be a replacement bus.
The welcome was warm, though omitted any mention of my Marriott status. The staff comped a welcome drink and chocolate bar and were really helpful as I tried to find somewhere to order food - unfortunately the delivery apps had high minimum spends so unless I ordered 2 pizzas or more I couldn't source any food. Advice to use the 24h petrol station next door was appreciated, it was fine.
The rooms are small. Why Marriott think Millennials don't want a wardrobe or desk/table/chair is beyond me - if I was travelling for work this would be useless. As it was, I had to do some work, and had to do this in the bar. There are no in-room safes and seemingly no provision for valuables, I know Denmark is pretty safe but if my work valuables went missing it would cause me a world of pain.
The rooms are well soundproofed from the busy road outside and from each other. There was a very odd pipe noise in the very early morning that woke me.
The bathroom was small. Shower pressure was at the lower end of luxurious, temperature fluctuated a touch. Lack of a heated mirror was annoying. Toilet paper seemed cheap. There was a distinctive smell of drains in the morning before use. Cleaning in general seemed OK with towels replenished daily.
Breakfast was disappointing. If targeting 20 and 30-somethings, I cannot fathom why the spread, yoghurts aside, was all carbs. This is a demographic slammed for eating avocado instead of buying homes, why would they want breakfast cereal, bread/rolls, croissants, danish pastries, pancakes and a token small selection of 2 cheeses and 2 sliced meats. Not even peanut butter for some protein. Even Holiday Inn Express scrambled eggs would be an upgrade.
Overall, the decor and branding was cringeworthy. Suggestive messaging, trying to be 'cool' or 'hip' just jarred - I'm not sure Marriott understands why my demographic typically chooses Air BnB instead of hotels if this is their effort to...
