I had high hopes for our one-night stay at this Hotel. The Hotel is in an excellent location, and it was handy to have as a close “respite” after exploring the Ribe Jazzfest. The problems: Our room (Room number 1) reeked of old sweat and gym clothes; the smell was inescapable. It was located on the bed, pillow, closet, and floor. You know the smell. Our sockets blew two separate occasions, and completely damaged/burned my international charger (which I’ve used for years in all sorts of accommodations with no problem)/shut off the power for the entire Hotel. We found a cockroach crawling next to our bed when it was bedtime. After an evening at the Jazzfest, we came back to the Hotel around 10:30PM to find it pitch black and locked, with no reception or Hotel attendants to help. Our room was located 3 floors up, so we were caught off guard and had to find lighting for each floor. We are a young and able-bodied couple, but for older guests, this would have been a complete nightmare. This is where I could be mistaken in not reading the ad clearly before booking: Please note that the single bathroom and single shower for our entire floor of 5 rooms is located at the end of the hall. Restaurant Backhaus in Ribe is the worst I ever tried. Everything was straight out of the freezer, the potatoes were worse than the ones from the cantine at school when I was a kid, and even the french fries were terrible (My daughter also noticed that the more fried they were, the worse the taste, probably due to friture oil way too old). When they arrived with the banana split, which was just a banana in two pieces on an ordinary plate, with a block of vanilla ice cream that tasted of frozen water in the middle, it was too much for me to stay calm (my son was also surprised and said it did not look like a banana split). I delivered personally the 72 Kr a piece disgusting banana splits back to the kitchen and told them what I thought of their food, using a few French words along the way...

The most insane thing is that this restaurant was packed with locals, and it seemed that the only thing they were unsatisfied about was the service (yes, it was bad too, because they obviously had too few people doing service).

It is obviously a very good business for the owners of the restaurant since we paid 1200 Kr for food that was worth about 100. Never felt cheated like that in the restaurant before, not even that time in Paris I got sick from a...

Kind staff, yet rather slow and a need to repeat your wishes. We had to go and get a waiter, to have our orders taken, after that we had 2 other waiters asking if we wanted to order. So there was a miss communication or lack or sorting out who is responsible for which service area. Although they were sweet, it did make it seem confusing and you got in doubt of everything was under control. (-⭐)

They do have a good sortiment of local brew that was tasty and fairly priced! 🤩 We enjoyed those very much!

There are both indoor seating and backyard area. Good location close to the Cathedral. And also outdoor patio heaters for the evening chill. ⭐🤩

The pricing on cocktails was a bit overkill - eg. I ordered a cocktail and they only had simple selection " mix drinks", and the actual "cocktails" were premade poured from a bottle. For the same price, other places will make it fresh. 💁🏼‍♀️ (-⭐) Yet still decently tasty.

For dessert we had fruit filled pancakes with Orange cream, and vanilla parfait, amd cranberry sauce and fruits. That was really quite tasty and a shared portion was plenty and romantic setting too. Lovely...
