I'm italian and, as such, can tell easily when something sold as italian cuisine is the real thing. Normally, whenever abroad, I stay clear from restaurats tha simply exploit the "italian sounding" of their names to attract customers looking for italian cuisine. Often, one is in for disappointment! What they offer has just the italian name. That said, I and my wife, while in Helsingør, we wanted to have lunch, and started scrutinising the menus outside of several restaurants, offering italian food, along the way, but no one was appealing. Eventually, we reached the restaurant Amici Miei, and the menu looked good. Even the names of the italian dishes were correct! That alone hinted to the presence of a real italian. And decided to try our luck. I had a pizza which was very good, combined with a craft beer from an Italian micro brewery. We also had a very good bottle of wine (a Barolo if memory serves). The staff was very nice to us, but mostly screamed at each other, which made me somewhat uneasy when ordering or asking again for items that they forgot. With some prejudice you could claim that it adds to the Italian authenticity, but it was slightly uncomfortable. Nevertheless, it's a great Italian restaurant! The quality of the ingredients was exceptional—every dish was fresh, flavorful, and truly authentic. You can really sense the care and attention they put into preparing the food. The service was also excellent; the staff was kind, attentive, and very helpful.
