We love sushi & was told this restaurant is a favorite by some staff. I assume they meant the teppanaki because the sushi was absolutely horrible - I got food poisoning & seriously couldn’t swallow half the food. I can’t imagine if I did swallow it all.
We started with the Sashimi platter as an appetizer and the tuna tataki. I’ve had my fair share of all you can eat sushi, good sushi - great sushi. The salmon is always my favorite and I couldn’t swallow it. Much too fishy and slimey.
The tuna tasted much too fishy & oddly chewy vs soft.
The ‘Japanese spring rolls’ were from whatever grocery store & soggy.
The gyoza was the best thing we had & that also reminded me of some I get at a grocery store.
The rolls - the rice was mushy and dense. The fish again was fishy & disgusting lol.
Point is, if you like sushi, don’t come here. Get the teppanaki and hopefully that’s better than my experience of food poisoning & god awful food / service.
The sad part - no one asked how it was. Why we didn’t finish a single dish they brought us. But I’m sure...

Kyoto is two restaurants; Sushi and Teppanyaki.
The sushi part order off a menu. 5 items only from the limited menu. Each item is a course. Service is extremely slow. If you eat at the sushi side this will be your entire evening. Each course took about 30 minutes to arrive. Soup... 30 minutes, 6 pieces of sushi... 30 minutes, etc. It will be nearly 3 hour before you get dessert! If you would like a drink refill it is best to got to bar at the entrance.
The Teppanyaki side is entertaining and efficient, but be sure to bring your wallet! When the chef is done plating the food, he will stand awkwardly pretending to clean up until everyone has topped.
One guessed was embarrassed and said she did not have cash, only card. So the chef wave the host over to escort her...
Read moreThis was our last night at the resort and we were looking forward to this restaurant the most. Our reservation was for 9:30pm but we were not seated until 10. After seating, it took 30 minutes to get some water then another 30 minutes to get our order taken. The chef came out at 11pm and started to cook but noticed we didn’t even have our appetizers yet. A family of 6 at our table left when the chef came out because it was too late for them and they had children to put to bed. The second family left before dessert because the service and food was not good. I’m not sure if this was an off night but I have to admit that the Kyoto Japanese restaurant was the biggest disappointment and I personally would not recommend. We also got served our food and had no silverware. We had to wait for someone to come around and manually ask for silverware so...
