Steak House Santa Fe — Restaurant in Higüey

There may have been a language barrier despite the waitress seeming to write everything down. My daughters fishsticks off the children's menu was served over an hour and a half into the meal after the adults were done with their starters and mean. She would have eatten alone if I had not waited to eat with her. The staff who was not observant took away the sauces that were served on the side and cutlery not realizing I was waiting to eat with her. Also nothing came out together all the food was staggered within the tablet of 5 (one a child) but not at a reasonable amount I am talking over 30-45 minutes one person or two would reciever an appetizer and you would have to ask 2-3 times for the rest. Same occurrence with mains and desserts. The food overall was very good so did not score it a 1. They did not offer to refill drinks in a timely manner (only doing it 1x thru the whole dining experience) and at one point we were waiting for cutlery despite having food serve, more oddly the cutlery in the napkins differed setting to setting in which one would have an extra fork and other missing a steak knife. Reservation system at the resort leaves a lot to be desired. We had to wait until 9pm for a reservation despite the restaurant being less than half full when we arrived. We were seated at a dirty table and had to wait for someone to clean and reset it. The server, and most everyone at the resort, speak little to no English so communication is a challenge. They don’t serve any liquor drinks despite being all inclusive. I went down the hall to the bar and got my own drinks. The food came out quickly but was not fresh. My steak was significantly overcooked. You do not get a choice of side item. They just bring you what they have. I think they know they have problems with the food because the waitress brought an extra meal for us “to share”. Thankfully she did because my steak was inedible so I ate that one, which was tolerable. Also no follow up after the food was served. Probably so they didn’t have to hear any complaints. Despite all that, it was one of the better meals at the resort, which speaks to the overall poor quality...

As many have said, you arrive at time I'd your reservation to a hostess station line outside (covered) so it is warm. Once seated, the table was not set correctly for our party (short of silverware and glasses). Staff was very friendly and attentive. It does not appear that a server is assigned to a table or section as we had different staff stop to take our drink order, food order, and check on us during the meal and seemed like they did not communicate this with each other. The strip steak is probably USDA select grade at best and some likely worse. Ours were cooked correctly to order and paired with a twice baked potato that was fair. All in all this was similar to a buffet style chain steakhouse in the US (Ponderosa, Golden Corral, etc.).

If you sit on the terrace the view is beautiful, inside it is warm (teetering on uncomfortable) and the lighting levels are similar to a dim office building. Not exactly fine dining.
