This restaurant is absolutely beautiful, the location the decoration it is breathtaking. The food is also delicious. I visited Dominican Republic often and this restaurant has been on my list to visit for a long time. I happened to be visiting last week with family who had been to the restaurant before. Our reservations were made and we made it clear that we wanted to be Seated inside. We arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes prior to our reservation time and sat and its waiting area. The restaurant was very busy. The host or people on the first floor were not very warming or engaging. Once we got upstairs, that host was not good either, and appeared as if she had an attitude. I get it The restaurant is super busy but you are in the business of service. You don’t get to be rude because you are busy. It was made very clear that if you are late to your reservation, you will lose it after waiting for over 45 minutes now 25 minutes past our reservation time we checked in with the host and reminded her that we were waiting for our 9 PM reservation. The host told us to sit and wait and that she would be with us when she can. She came out about 20 minutes later, and explained that the table in which we were going to be seated was currently occupied. She explained that those guests have already paid. They’re just waiting for them to go. She came back 10 minutes later and said the same thing she then said she had to seat us outside because the next reservation was also there for the same table. At this point, we were hungry and very frustrated so we sat outside. Of course, outside next to us there was a table of people smoking cigars truly making it a space for us. That was hard to eat, and enjoy ourselves due to the smell of cigars. Beside the seating arrangements and the host, our waiter was extremely rude. At one point he grunt while taking our drink order we had one round of drinks. We ordered our appetizer and dinner at the same time, and he was so rude at that point, we just wanted to leave when we did leave, we got an elevator back down to the first floor. The hostess rolled her eyes at us and began to talk to the building, security looking directly at us. It is a shame for this beautiful restaurant with amazing food to have such ignorant and impatient, hostesses and waiters. The restaurant is beautiful. The food is great. However, I will take my business somewhere else where I feel appreciated and valued. I was so...
Read moreOn my birthday my boyfriend and I, we decided to go to Larimar restaurant to celebrate. We had heard that it was the best restaurant in Santo Domingo and I was quite excited to give it a try. However, our experience turned out to be quite disappointing and left us feeling let down. Despite confirming our reservation twice, the service was not up to par. We were still hopeful for a good meal, though. After being seated, we ordered drinks which were nothing special. We even had to ask the waiter for water and napkins, which was quite confusing.
Next, we ordered duck tacos as our appetizer. Unfortunately, they were served cold, very small, and lacked presentation. They seemed like they had been sitting at the back waiting for someone to order them for hours. Additionally, the duck had an unpleasant smell and didn't seem to be washed or seasoned properly. We had to ask the waiter for lime, which took about twenty minutes to arrive.
For our main course, I ordered a burger and my girlfriend ordered a steak. However, the presentation of the food was poor and lacked any attention to detail. I feel that even if I had asked a server or chef at McDonald's to make my food look fancy for just five dollars more, they would have done a better job.
I gave Larimar a rating of one for presentation, two for taste, and an overall score of one. In my opinion, Larimar is not worth the hype and I don't plan on spending my money at this restaurant in the future.
On Friday, 19th, we visited Maraca, and it was a much better experience. The food was delicious, the presentation was great, the ambiance was amazing, and the staff was attentive...
Read moreLatest trendy restaurant in Santo Domingo so my husband and I decided to give a try on our last night in the capital. First impressions mean a lot and we got ours before sitting at the table. There were 3 young women who rode the elevator up along with my husband and I and another young couple. The young couple was seated first no questions asked. When it came to the women there was a dress code issue and one of the ladies was advised her attire was not appropriate. The ladies asked to go to the rest room so they could solve the issue. She was showing too much cleavage. I felt terrible for this young woman and I could tell they all felt very uncomfortable. We were seated without issues and as I sat there I looked around to see how this dress code was being enforced and felt even worse when I realized they were being discriminated because of the color of their skin. There were a lot of other patrons and apparently sneakers and t-shirts and dresses that show too much are fine for the “whiter” folks. The entire situation really broke our hearts to think that classism and racism are so obvious. To make the story short the ladies were eventually seated and my husband and I approached them and brought them something nice to assure they had a good time. Please don’t stand by when others are being discriminated against, we are all deserving. We did not enjoy our food as much or the atmosphere because of the way these ladies were treated. The food was not bad and the decor is amazing, the service was different for us and we know why. My husband said he would never go back because of...
